Any way for Chinese companies to get in on this action?
They'll just be there alongside all the other companies, China has decent if not even deep penetration into Indian market.

Occasionally you see Jai hinds call for boycott on Chinese phones, tools, cars or what have you. And that is because there's a big amount of these inside India. Entire companies from China make a business model based on catering to the specific needs of third world countries rather than home market.

Also among the commentary:

Former Apple employees said that Chinese suppliers had a totally different attitude, aiming to exceed the Cupertino company’s expectations. On more than one occasion, they said, a Chinese supplier would be given a task expected to take several weeks, and would have it done literally the next day.

Also among the commentary:

That’s because Chinese workers will get genocide if they don’t perform up to task and Indian workers are free thinkers with attitude. Also Chinese goods are crap even though I am typing this from an Oppo phone. Jai Effing Hind!

Worth noting that the casing factory in question (with 50% defect rate) is located in Tamil Nadu. That's one of the most industrialised states in India, equivalent to Guangzhou's status in China. The only state within India that can rival it in terms of manufacturing depth and sophistication is Gujarat.

So this is as good as it gets if you're a Western firm looking to diversify to India. Thanks to geopolitics, the West is desperate to give India as much business as possible. We'll see how they take advantage of that opportunity, because this is a once-in-a-lifetime moment for them.
