Indian households are saving less than they have for half a century.

to the Reserve Bank of India, net household savings in 2022-23 — the Indian financial year runs from April to March — were only 5.1% of gross domestic product. That’s down from 8% of GDP in 2019-20 and 11.5% in the year the pandemic hit.
These are levels not seen since the oil crises of the 1970s. The debt burden of Indians is also increasing. Household financial liabilities rose sharply to 5.8% of GDP in the last financial year.

Western media is saying India will grow old before growing rich.

India’s elderly population will double and overtake the number of children by 2050

The rise in India's aging population will cause a slew of socio-cultural and economic challenges.
"Aging is directly associated with economic dependency given loss of income coupled with increased healthcare expenditure. Low participation in the formal economy restricts access to fixed pension and increases economic insecurity," UNFPA said.

Who knew that India and China have so much in common.

Such pessimism from the West towards India after such glowing praise just yesterday. Why the sudden change of heart? I mentioned in another thread that these tensions with Canada has more to do with the West, after sucking up to India for months, trying turn India against Russia and they really haven't gotten any return. Then India's moon lander and rover failed... To the run up to this latest mission, India released information on their last failure and there were Indians who spun it to blame China which they accuse of just simply sending a signal and ordered it to tumble out of control before landing. China could do that...? You know India asked or the US volunteered to help to make India's next moon mission a success... until it wasn't... What's the next shoe to drop?

The assassination in Canada sure has alarmed the West that India is not an obedient poodle that they can take for granted. It is clear that the West is not able to control an assertive India, but besides scolding not sure if the West wants to weaken India too much that its anti-China role is compromised.

SCMP reports 41 Canadian diplomats in India will lose diplomatic immunity, and Trudeau says he will not escalate. Says a lot about India's perceived worth to the west.

Lunar rover successful landed at the same time BRICS meeting agreed to ditch US dollar trade and expand BRICS membership.

So essentially, Western MSM went from coddling India's lunar rover, to flipping on India by the G20 summit few weeks later. The only explanation I can see is US is super angry at Indian complicity with BRICS expanding membership AND ditching US dollar trade. The Ukraine war position is a huge underlying factor as well. All this to say, playing all sides isn't easy, and road to supa powah isn't as simple as Indians might think, requires deft diplomacy.
