No they do not.. No more S-3's in most airwings and no Tomcats. Only one Super Hornet squadron has replaced the two Tomcat squadrons.

Typical make up of a present day USN CVW;

48 Hornets & Super Hornets
4 E/A-6B Prowlers
4 4 E-2C Hawkeyes
6-10 SH-60 Seahawks

62-66 total aircraft.

There may also be two C-2 Greyhound logistic suppourt aircraft on board.
but they could add more super hornets very easy if necessary, i think - didn't they?

Sure, there is enough room on the ship for at least two more Hornet squadrons. That's 24 aircraft. Only some very minor modifications would be needed. Such as re-opening closed berthing compartments and re-opening and moving some work shops.

A good week ago I downloaded a 3D moddel program just for fun to try some things. I'm still learning to use it and decided to model my carrier design as my first project.
I still have to figure out how to correctly apply textures and then render it correct. But from the following you might get a basic idea of it's look. It's still simplyfied.
It's not exactly my previous posted design. Obi Wan Russel made some minor alterations at it and send me his update.
The markings on the deck are made with paint afterwards.
Here's what I now made, in the first (left) pic, one squqre is 10m long/wide:

Now if got to decide what to do if I find time. Model aircraft to fit them onto the ship, or make a new one, perhaps my cruiser. But first I want to try to put this one in a real enviroment.

Hi @Scratch,

if the big red square is the elevator, I think, it is to large. The hull is like a box for stability and it shouldn't be interupted to much.

Well, there are two elevators on the right side aft and front to the island. The black lines show how far they go inwards. Actually they are perhaps 20x25m.
That red-like line is just a deck marking.

Honestly this is the most practical ski-jump design I've seent yet!:) Excellent "starter" CV. Excellent

Plently of room on deck for movement and spotting(parking) of aircraft. Deck-edge elevators. The weapons are placed on sponsons!

I would like to know the demensions and air wing make up.

With your permision I'm going to post this in a yahoo Cv group.

Well this is my design from post #64 with very minor alterations.
It's still 300m long. As I already said, the side length of one square in the left pic is 10m. Note, this is a waterline model, so it shows nothing of the hull that's below the surface.
There's really much space on the deck for a sky-jump (i.e. in comparisson to Kuznetsov). I don't really know why exactly. Perhaps my sky-jump is too short and therefore the radius too small, loading too many Gs on the gear during take-off. The deck is a bid wider on the front than on Kuznetsov and the island is smaller.
I can't really say what would be a fitting air-wing here, since I've no experiance in that. You might have a better idea, estimating from this pics and the cutaway pic in my post #64.
Perhaps 12 naval J-11 and 24 naval J-10, or vice veresa. 6 naval J-11 for tanker and recce. 4 AEW, i.e. KJ-2000. 6-8 Ka-28 ASW helicopter. 4Z-9 for gen.-purpose.

If you really like it that much, put it forward in a yahoo group. Maybe it'll show up somewhere as an actual future PLAN design. :)

BD, two quick questions:

1). on the photo above (CV-41?) aircrafts park fully on the desk, if some aircraft comes in and want to land, how does it do?

2). I notice the front part of the carrier, there are many things look like antena on both side of the carrier's nose, what are they?

Sorry I did not see your post until today...

1) That picture was taken prior to launch. Launch and recovery are seperate events.
2) Those are radio communication antenna..

Smashing stuff Scratch. You're getting ahead of the game, lol.

Here's my catch-up idea, basically an incremental enhancement of conventional thinking with a few original touches:
stealthcarrier5ce2.jpg

Anywhere from the 50,000t upwards, nuclear powered and using ski-jumps in order to accomodate the (soon) legacy Su-33, though hopefully with TVC.

The medium/long range SAMs (S-400 "small" is best IMO but whatever) are in VLS between the ski-jumps. There'd be Type-730s and QW-4 SAMs as well (not drawn).

The most obvious feature is the minimalised above-deck structure which houses the secondary 3-D search radar, navigation radars etc. It would also house the small deck-control bridge (no windows on starboard side to reduce RCS). The main navigation bridge is below the ski-jump (the dark band is the windows). Above/behind the bridge under the ski-jumps are the YJ-62 cruise missiles and phased-array fire control radars.

The main radars would be phased arrays which are mounted on the hull and would be similar to those on the Type-52C.

It would also have some SS-N-29 ASW missiles and some Y-7 lightweight torpedoes.

Intresting design.:)

A couple of things. I don't care what navy is operating a a CV you need someone with real eyes to see the flight deck. No windows on the starboad side is a bad idea. Sorry. Someone in a position of authority needs to oversee the flight deck operations. Usally a commander. He's called the "air Boss" on a USN CV. He's as close to God as it gets.

Next..I think the IJN may have had a CV with the bridge where you placed it. But....It's going to be noisey in there..make that very noisey in there with aircraft launching over head. Not to mention if they have to fire missiles they will not be able to launch aircraft or hear....

I like the stealthy looks of the ship:) With a few minor refinements it will be a fine design.
