What if they let him run ( and get the votes) ? ...because banning him will only embolden the kid. He will become "that guy who dared to speak out and got oppressed by the EVIL CCP". He would become an idol - soon the name "Joshua Wong" would need to be censored within the Chinese internet.
Two scenarios -
1. The boy gets to run and fails miserably. Future seems bleak for him.
2. Boy Wins. Now it is time to blame everything bad with HK currently on him. I say Trap him and his administration in corruption and make his initial campain promises be revealed to be hollow, short sighted and harmful. He would be seen reversing his stance, backtracking and even defending many of the policies of the PRC and that makes him look like an opportunistic trickster. His win ascension and dethronement, the whole saga will help China make a point. The public support behind him would crater (slowly) and he would flee to US.
3. The boy wins and actually makes HK a better place - an Utopia. *chuckle*
Nah. Blocking him would be a “wut u gonna do bro” move. Let the terries and their handlers know they cannot disrupt China’s progress.

in short, to stand for elections is one of the basic human rights as far as I know, irrespective of "intentions" of the individual

(guess you heard of

-- unrelated to the current HK, but related to "intentions")

would be different if the whole movement was dissolved by authorities -- it happened even here and, as far as I know, concerned neo-Nazi and neo-Stalinists ("class struggle" by Marx if you know what that means) -- but yesterday in the evening I linked a substitute info I mean

EDIT I'll rephrase my whole point which is it would've been a good tactics of the authorities to let him run for a seat (now checked

and it doesn't sound like much; plus it appears the support of his movement isn't high Yesterday at 7:36 AM)

The Czech Republic bans people of certain "intentions" such as the Workers' Party. Perhaps you should be condemning such abuse of basic human rights.

I would be more supportive of such a tactic if the guy had not already been proven to be an instigator of violence and destruction as well as submitting himself to be a foreign tool.

I personally hope he'll stay in custody forever!!!

I'm in two minds.

First, yes I'm with you because of my own personal disgust for him or what he and his cohorts have done to my home city! But then we would only create a martyr.

But then, on the other hand, after seeing him perform in the debate with Chan, I thought we could play the long game, and let him loose, because he's going to make a fool of himself sooner rather than later.

Also, once his usefulness runs out, the puppet masters will drop him like a lead ballon!

There's no such thing as a human right as far as I know. Rights are inalienable but everything you have and are allowed to do can be taken away from you as punishment for misbehavior in any society. Sometimes, punishment can befall you when you have not actually committed the crime (either by corruption or by mistake). As far as I know, every person lives under the complete mercy of society, if s/he conducts him/herself in an unacceptable manner as deemed by this society, everything, including life can be taken away. That's why "rights" and "freedoms" mean nothing to me; just do you best for your country and hopefully, your country will return the favor.

It's great, isn't it. The west use "human rights" only when it suits itself. There's no talk of human rights in Barcelona, and Santiago! Even now, Thailand is still under marshal law! why is this? Because they are on the west side!

Where are the human rights bombs were dropped on civilians by the west?

Close to home, where is the human rights of the homeless man got shot by police? Where are the human rights on political parties being banned for being "radical"!

It is a waste of time, this one. Trouble is, they are fed by their MSM. And the narratives are, we are good, anyone else is bad! Even though we are doing the same thing, just don't tell the public at large!
