Re: Your Favorite Foods...What you like to eat

Well, after several initial attempts to order stuff went bad since I had no idea what I was ordering, I have been banned from ordering. I just sit there and eat whatever they got me. This is convenient espeically the Chinese style of eating is "communal eating". We don't get our onw dish. All dishes are put in the middle of the table and we scoop from the dish into our own plates. So they simply order enough dishes for however many people at the table.
Sorry to beat to death... Chinese and English on menu?
And I LOVE chicken feet!! LOVE them! Whenever we go Dim Sum, I would get 5-6 plates of them and would not allow anyone to touch it, ALL MINE!! Not so much for duck feet though. They look freaky...
YOU are NOT COMING W/ ME to the tea house. :D
I eat tentons AND tongues. Actually we used to eat pig tongues a lot when we were still living in China. Tentons have to be cooked thoroughly, or they are so tough. I tried it a couple times at home (cooking them all day in a slow cooker, but can never get the kind of tenderness we get at restaurants. They probably use pressure cooker though.
Yea, same with my mom. 6 hrs and sometimes it's still sun baked rubber. Pressure cooker definitely helps.

Charcoal? isn't that a little dangerous on top of a table? And I thought hot pot is a national winter "dish".
Have you ever tried what they call turnip cake I don't like it I prefer it made from potatoes, its nice a couple of days old with dice up bacon or ham in it with a beaten fried and shredded egg.
I have'nt got the exact recipe does anyone have it?
You mean taro? Potato isn't Chinese and Chinese bacon will probably hide its taste.
For taro cake, I think (Mom mentioned it) you cook your taro first, chunky or mush is your choice. The starch (regular or sweet rice flour, don't remember which, probably regular rice) is mixed in hot water. Chinese bacon/Chinese sausage, dried shrimp-which you fry first. Five spice. little salt. Mix, steam, slice, dip in egg and pan fry.
Same with Pork Buns whose got the recipe to get that white fluffy dough mixture> I just make it from a standard white bread recipe and steam it, its not quite the same though.
Ammonia. Baking don't need ammonia, but steaming does. And let it stand and expand longer I guess.
Salmon is good I could eat a whole one by myself.
Salmon belly and salmon wings..... oo, that's good.
Meanwhile Im gonna have wild duck tonight Shot them in the Weekend, Ive got my own lake/duckpond on my property and some ducks land on it to escape the public lakes and escape the other hunters. Have you guys ever gone hunting I go pig hunting with my mate but I lost a couple of my best dogs got killed by one last season so Ill have to do something about replacing them. Wild pig is really tasty, same as deer, much better than farmed ones.
I live in California. TT_TT What'd you use?
And what'd you do with the shots in the duck?

Not really, just take care, and theres a little compartment in the cooker to stick the charcoal

.

I dont like taro so I use potato. Theres another chinese vegetable Lo Bak or something I don't like that either. I didnt know that taro was a Chinese vegetable. Ive always associated it with the Pacific Islands.

Ammonia?? Never added ammonia.Trouble if you let it stand too long the mixture goes off because of the yeast.

12gauge shot gun normally dig the shot out after, but recently ive got this powerful slug gun, its better than the average .22 i can just stand a few paces from them and get them with a head shot (totally illegal) but im doing this on my own property and no one knows. I could even just trap them and then wring their necks or whatever.(just sparing you the gory stuff)

I live on a twenty acre lifestyle block which was once part of a 400 acre farm. That'.s how ive got this irrigation/pond lake on my block. I run a few steers, and planted out a mixed fruit orchard for myself, but basically Im in the process of planting out oak trees that have been impregnated with truffle spores.. The theory that in time Ill get truffles and heaps of $$$$$:)
anyway its just something to keep me amused in my retirement and helps pay for the property taxes, and make it more attractive to any prospective buyer, down the track.:)

Heres a question, whats better Canola oil or Olive oil?

I was having a conversation with a friend, and she wanted to know what was better. I spent a few hours looking up Canola vs Olive yet there are those websites which are Pro-Canola and others which are Pro-Olive. Which made me even more confused...help please?

I cant say which is better as I've never used Canola however when opting for Olive Oil Most of those fancy brand from Europe are not as good as supposed as they use chemical addittives to get get as much oil from the pressing process. and then its not as fresh as locally produced stuff. The first press is the best and the last presses are retrieved from the rubbish , but they are given fancy names.
So if you can , stay away from them. Having lived in Nz you might remember Paul Holmes, the TV presenter, he has a Olive Oil growing business and his oil is greatly recommended by international judges. He doesnt use chemical aided pressing techniques.. You might find some olive oil producers that do the same thing, it is certainly a selling point.

Meanwhile theres no real issues with Olive oil, its just the quality you are prepared to buy.Actually buying good Olive oil is like buying a good wine, if youre not fussy get what you can afford and what you are using it for, cheaper stuff for cooking and good stuff to add directly to dips and salads or whatever?

Meanwhile Canola oil has too much bad press for my liking , coming from rapeseed which is poisonous.

It depends on what you do. If low-temp application and salad, olive oil is definitely the way to go since it's healthy. Olive oil is not good for high-temp stuff. It has low burning temp, which means it smokes and burns easily.

Taro is PI and Southeast quarter of Asia, including SEA and South China. Didn't you see them in China?

Don't know, my mom used some sort of powder, and after you steam it, you can smell the ammonia when ripping the bun. Without ammonia, bun is yellow; with, is white, you know.

Illegal? What the feep?

I prefer canola oil over olive oil because I don't like the smell of olive oil in the pan, stinks......

Wild Duck is a game bird so theirs rules for shooting them.
Hunting season starts in May and goes to what the permit says, and you are only allowed to shoot them in the air with a shotgun ,not on the ground or water.

Canola oil has a lot of bad press.

Can't remember seeing Taro in China, maybe didn't register
