HJ-8 ATGM in Syria

The Rebels are getting pretty good at this. I'm surprised that they're not winning the war considering that there must be at least several dozen tanks and APV being destroyed the HJ8.

Rebels don't control Latakia which is the key port which handles Russian delivery of weapons and Russia wil never allow Assad to fall they didn't even support the Serbs as much as they are supporting the Assad family

I can't believe the scouts or recon team didn't even pick this guy out in plain view in near flat terrain with no cover just sitting there firing his HJ-8 ATGM at their armor tank or vehicle.

That's what I was thinking. From the standpoint of the person taking the video unless there's low cover right there the camera isn't catching, it's a clear unobstructed view from both directions.

Could be that they set up in behind a gently rising small hill or some other terrain feature that would have obscured all but the top of the missile and operator to the sight lines of the target armour and its supporting infantry. Setting up closer to actual physical cover might have give them more direct cover against incoming fire, but may paradoxically have also made the operator more detectable as well and reduced the odds of a successful hit and kill.

True, but they could've use binoculars to see and at least scout the terrain features for any enemy activities before moving into the area. My guess is the Syrian army must be losing quite a number of their recon team to be effective in their forward observer units.

HJ-8 sure has a weird firing mechanism that throws the entire tube backwards.
