So bd, "die cast cars," on my dresser I have two F-104s, an F-4, Su-30, Su-35, F-22, 2 F-18s, a black Russian Helo, and the prototype LAH-Helo, and a matchbox semi- with a Mobile Missle launcher, the grand kids love this stuff, but I make sure its back where it belongs when they leave, my wife did get me a C-130 for my flight sim last Christmas, way cool. She did offer to buy me a die cast gixxer, but I thought I needed the real thing, took a ride on it today. I have been trying to buy one of the cox spitfires since I got one for Christmas a long long time ago. I saw you were in the Navy, my father in law was on the Drew a troop carrier, in WWII, and later the Carl S. Maquire, a destroyer, he just got a laptop, he's 80 something and loves the couple of websites with the Drew. He's retired from the family farm and lives a couple of blocks down. If you are at liberty I'd be interested to know where you served since we're kind of neighbors.

Dear Petty Officer &&&&

As your long and distinguished career draws to a close, I wish to take this
opportunity to formally recognize the tremendous contributions you have made
in the defense of your country. Those of us in the Navy who are frequently
called away from our families and loved ones in the course of a military
career make a very special sacrifice in the interest of freedom. It is with
those thoughts in mind that I commend you on behalf of your countrymen for
twenty years of faithful, steadfast, and loyal service in the United States
Navy.

Your military career began on 25 August 1971 when you enlisted in the United
States Navy at Cincinnati, Ohio.

After completing basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, you attended Aviation Fundamentals"P" School, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida, and Aviation Mechanical
Fundamentals "P" School, Naval Air Station Memphis, Tennessee. You went on to
serve admirably on board USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67); USS MIDWAY (CV 41); USS
HANCOCK (CVA 19); Naval Air Station, Cubi Point, Republic of the Philippines;
Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron, Light 31; and Air Anti-Submarine Squadrons
33 and 41. Your quest for excellence and challenging assignments inspired you
to change your rate to Aviation Life Support Systems Technician (PR) while
serving on board USS AMERICA (CV 66). You later served at Helicopter Combat
Support Squadron 11; Naval Air Facility, Diego Garcia; Aircraft Intermediate
Maintenance Department (AIMD), Naval Air Station Miramar, San Diego,
California; and Sea Operational Detachment, Naval Air Station Miramar.

In recognition of your outstanding career in the Naval Service, you were
authorized to wear the following individual and unit awards: Navy Unit
Commendation Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal; Navy Battle "E";
Ribbon (two awards); Navy Good Conduct Medal (four awards); Navy Expeditionary
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (two awards); Vietnam Service Medal; South
West Asia Service Medal with Device; Humanitarian Service Medal (two awards);

On the occasion of your retirement, I extend to you the grateful appreciation
of this command for your many years of loyal service to the United States Navy
and our nation. On behalf of the many officers, enlisted personnel, and
civilian employees who have served with you, I wish you happiness and
continued success in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,
Commander, U.S. Navy

Thats enlightening, one of my former churchmembers was a marine in Korea, his son went into the Air Force and later accepted a commision in the Navy and flew Hoovers off of carriers. Tom later went into med school in St. Louis and served at Nas Great Lakes. When the gulf heated up again, he requested an air wing assignment and became flight surgeon on the Kennedy. I kind of lost track of him because he wasn't home much during that time, but I believe he retired out of Nas Jacksonville, about the time the Kennedy was retired. He now works for the FAA in Okcity, in the aero medical certification. I only see him once or twice a year, usually during deer season, although his family lives here year round on their family farm. Merry Christmas and thank you for your service, new years blessing to you and your family.

Yeah it had some honkin big turbofans as I recall, refit for better fuel consumption? upgrade? Anyway he did get to fly it some as the flight surgeon. He had a South African T-6, now a 450 P&W Stearman, hoping to get a promised ride in the stearman this summer. After my Dad got cancer, the Air Force hospital in San Antone did a stem cell transplant in 97 or so, as I recall Kelly was a heavy maintenance depot for the C-5, and the boq where he was staying was on the downwind, I got the "aluminum overcast" thing, but those big turbofans had a sound all their own. Stem cell worked good for 4 or 5 years, but he passed on 9/08/02. Cheers the Brat
