H-6 Bomber Aircraft Discussions

A WP-8 provides 93.2 kN thrust and a Rolls-Royce Spery provides 54 kN thrust. Four Spery's are about 1.2t heavier than two WP-8s. That's about 15.8% increase in thrust and 19.7% increase in mass. What exactly were they trying to accomplish with H-6I back then?
For a further range. In Chinese "WP" is 涡轮喷气 means turbojet engine. It has a higher fuel consumption than the turbofan engine. I've read from a Chinese military magazine that in test H6I has a range of more than 8000km(maybe 9000km I can't make sure). And what about the original TU16 ?

Just try to build a bomber with turbofan engines. For some reasons(maybe less practical or hard to get engines after 1989 or too expensive),PLAAF only build one.

The Spey on H-6I comes from CAAC's spare engine for Trident. China got the license for Spey in 1975 and 4 prototypes were assembled at Xi'an Aero-Engine Corporation with the help from RR. The domestic produced model is designated as WS-9. The licensing fee was too expensive and China simply didn't have the technology for full domestic production. This coupled with the defense budget cuts in the 1980s resulted in the cancellation of H-6I.

If not for JH-7, the WS-9 project would have been abandoned. In 1990s, when the UK retires their F-4s, some of their engines were sold to China as scraps while still had some operational lives left. Those Spey's were used to equip JH-7. In 2000, WS-9 finally achieved full domestic production.

I said “...but it has not been confirmed.” Does this sound “real” to you?

I think you misunderstand me.

When I write "I would wonder if Huitong has a reason for attributing it as real" -- what I mean is why do you think that the particular clip of the video of H-6 launching YJ-12 internally is credible (aka "real")?
Putting it another way, are there additional rumours of H-6J being able to carry YJ-12 internally outside of that video clip, or is it simply the video clip being interpreted as legitimate?

I'm not saying you're claiming it is "real" or "confirmed" that H-6J is able to carry YJ-12 internally, but rather whether you're saying that part of the video itself is "real" or not.

I was just presenting it as a possibility because it’s from an AVIC video. AVIC may have lots of military secrets to keep, but they don’t have a track record of spreading misinformation.

Fair enough. I raised the point because when the video came out earlier this year it seemed like that internal YJ-12 was received skeptically or not mentioned at all, making it seem like the consensus was that it was a mistake.
