The H-6 Ⅰ first flew on January 5, 1978, eight years after the Air Force proposed extending the range of the H-6. "After the first phase of the test flight lasting 6 months, a total of 23 sorties, and a total flight time of 25 hours, H-6 Ⅰ temporarily grounded and waited for the final decision of the Air Force."

From some article about this and other developments of the H-6.

Hi

Just back from a Christmas visit to Xian. Noticed from the coach an H-6 on the G30 Lianhuo Expressway between Xi'an and Huashan Mountain. Not 100% the variant , but it has the older H-6A style glass nose. Managed to get a few poor quality shots and only markings I can see are Chinese Air force forward of the engine nacelle and a red star on the tail. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about it or better photos.

Many thanks

What is this new bomb? Any idea of the equivalent TNT?

According to Hui Tong it is a new large Fuel Air Explosive

EDIT: I hope this not from a movie or something like that.

If China really wanted a phallus-measuring contest, it could theoretically build a DF-21-sized FAE that could be mounted on the H-6.

Anyways it'll be interesting to know the specifications of this FAE; it looks far smaller than the Russian ATBIP or the US MOAB no doubt.

Hi Deino

Here they are. As I said I apologize in advance for the poor quality. Having taken a second look it looks like a standard 'PLAAF' roundal rathar than a red star as previously mentioned. Can't find anything on Google Earth, but someone may recognize the building.

Hope it helps someone and if I find something out myself I will let you know.

Interesting, do you know the exact location or name of the base?? Or do you even have a number?

From what is see, they are indeed old legacy H-6s, maybe the ones used as trainers? Most interesting :)
