Thrust-to-weight ratio is one reason. The JH-7 has afterburners and the H-6K does not. Another reason might be a less optimized airframe with less body/wing lift.
Regardless of that they were both interim designs. The JH-7, it seems, will be replaced with the J-16 which has better specs in all regards as far as I can see, the H-6K is just an intermediate platform until the H-20 becomes available. Still both of them are vast improvements over their predecessors (Q-5 and H-6).

From the latest info I got, there are indeed already 4 at Guiping-Menshu (8. NAD/23. AR STC) and it seems as if they arrived between 19 May and 4 September but quite interesting, they are only H-6KH or H-6J and not the probe-equipped AShBM carrier H-6N.

That's understandable. The ASBM will be harder to implement and will take more time. But it is important the Navy gets YJ-12 armed H-6J quickly. I have been wondering why it took this long for the navy to get an H-6K variant. Airforce got it in 2011. Air-launch YJ-12 variant should have a good stand-off range.

Why do they keep the KD-63s in service? They're larger/heavier than the CJ-10Ks and have a far shorter range.

I have been wondering too, what happens to the old KD-63 ? perhaps sell it cheaply to some friend countries or even donate them
Probably not enough stockpiles of the new missiles yet. Besides these still work if you want to practice with live rounds I guess.
