As far as I know AVIC never claimed "NEXT YEAR!" ... only certain outsiders - and esp. Minnie Chan

There was never any hint it would emerge in the next year after that video, in fact the way I interpreted it was that the teased aircraft would be "the next" major aircraft (from XAC).
It is the fault of places like SCMP who misinterpreted the meaning of the image and carried forwards with ridiculous theories.
It usually happens in the comment section in their weibo post or those of other posts with relevant topic so might be hard to track from here. And isn't the next basically mimicking same scene in an earlier american tease of B-21?
But that's off topic enough and not really relevant. I do believe PLAAF is more authoritative and this has a slightly higher chance of leading to something.
Well, people fell for that not because they don't know the difference between the next and next year; it's because China doesn't advertise its weapon program like this and it's a departure from established practice. What purpose does it serve is anyone's guess.

Is there a CCTV video you can provide showing that segment? Otherwise, it could be a PS'ed image.
Naah, found that in that blog. It says the video appeared at January 12 at CCTV. In the video of January 5 there was no explicit mention of 2021. I don't follow CCTV. So anyone verifying this would ke good.
