You are assuming gun-control activists actually know anything about firearms.

Up here in the Great White North, G11 and variant thereof is "Prohibited" by name. Yes, that's right, the experimental German caseless ammo assault rifle that was never really in serial production, nevermind having a civilian version, is on the prohibited list because of reasons. One theory floating around was that someone grabbed an issue of Guns and Ammo magazine and listed anything that looked scary in there.

Also, the ammo looks vaguely pistol-calibre, which shouldn't kick that much when fired in a rifle-length firearm with in-line stock.

The only gun control that should exist is a complete ban on firearms. All this half measure is by definition self-defeatist.

Then again, I'm quite certain the intention is to keep the masses fighting each other so the elite can get away with whatever they want.

Well, all I can say is that strong gun-control law in Japan didn't stop Abe-chan from getting handgonne'd.

It's way more important to control poverty and social trust rather than firearms.

China used to have absolutely no gun restrictions of any kind. Not only can you own assault rifles but also heavy machine guns and even anti air guns, although the latter were usually shared ownership by a whole community because they're not cheap.

This wasn't really a problem until the cultural revolution started.

Because of high social trust, when Deng's reforms were introduced, people had no issues with handing in their guns. And vice versa, if it were ever needed to distribute guns on a large scale again, you can be sure that the state will also not have anything to fear.
