Arromanches Mission: The CBG in the Arabian Gulf
After his patrol in the area of interest that is the Gulf of Aden and the northern Indian Ocean, the battle group established Task Force 473 (TF) around the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle crossed the Strait of Hormuz Sunday, February 15, 2015 and is now sailing in the Arabian Gulf.
The passage of the Strait of Hormuz between Oman and Iran, is always a highlight for the warships of the Navy, especially in the current international context. Crucially strategic importance since over 30% of global oil trade passes through the trade route, it is also the entry point of the maritime units deployed in the coalition against Daech. After a month of patrols designed to contribute to the security of the maritime areas of interest in the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, and several cooperation projects conducted with partner countries, the French Battle Group joined the Persian Gulf where it will soon operate within the Task Force 50, alongside the US carrier group around the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson.Une new phase of the pre strategic positioning in sensitive areas begins for the French sailors placed under the sign of the close cooperation with the US Navy, a continuation of the last deployment, Belleau Wood.
In this perspective, the units deployed to the Mission Arromanches perform a final stop in Manama, capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the US naval command headquarters in the Indian Ocean. The Kingdom of Bahrain is one of the main partners of France in the Near and Middle East, with whom we share a common vision of the major security challenges, especially those related to the fight against terrorism. But it is well with the Fifth Fleet of the United States, based in this country, that during this work call the staff of the naval group will finalize the last details of the imminent practical integration of the TF 473 in TF 50.
