The imminence of this deal might have helped the French if need be to walk away from the Indian Rafale deal as a certain number of units were required to keep the Rafale line open.

Looks like Egypt got very soft loan from France to buy these planes , otherwise Egyptians could not afford the price (5.2 billion euro for just 24 units , 216 million euros for just one aircraft) . French government is subsidizing Dassault with tax payers money in order to keep it afloat . Consolation prize for almost certain loss of Indian contract .

Dassault Aviation announced the sale of 24 Rafale fighter aircraft to Egypt on 12 February. The deal marks the first completed export agreement for the aircraft, and is a major boon for its manufacturer.
"I would like to thank the French authorities, who … have provided the political support, without which we cannot make any military export" said Eric Trappier, CEO of Dassault Aviation stated in the company announcement.
An official contract signature, attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and French Minister of Defence Jean-Yves Le Drian, is scheduled to take place in Cairo on 16 February.
The arms package is not limited to Rafales however, but also includes a FREMM frigate and an order for MBDA air defence missiles.

Yes, you are right . FREMM and other stuff supposed to be around 1 billion .
