Russia would accept either money or the delivery of the two warships that France has delayed, according to a Kremlin official. Under pressure from the United States and its allies in the European Union, France suspended the delivery of a Mistral warship to Russia, over Moscow's role in the Ukraine crisis. French President Francois Hollande last month said Paris would block the delivery indefinitely.

"Both options will suit us – either the ships or the money. The money spent must be recovered," the Kremlin's foreign policy aide said following talks between Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The US and EU has accused Russia of fuelling the conflict in eastern Ukraine, by providing weapons and manpower to the pro-Russian rebels that have seized key cities and surrounding areas.

Still can't believe France is going to have 50 x A-400 transports, such a large order and will give France a huge capability in lift capacity

Only surpassed by Germany who have 53 units on order

Original order books for France was actually 70 unit and Germany's 60 which were cut due to on going delays

... and rising costs, unfortunately. My understanding is that also, at least for the german planes, a passive low level terrain following system was removed from the aircraft. I don't really know about other nations, though.
France has already used this aircraft to support operations in Mali.

So just to make sure I understand you correctly. The 6 aircraft based at Orléans are those first 6 delivered to France and these don't have the terrain following system but it is planed for the future? Will all french aircraft be retrofitted or will only some future A400M get that?

Yes and planned in some years

Presumably

50 A-400M : 15 for begin 2 in 2013, 4 in 2014, 4 in 2015, 3 in 2016 , 2 in 2017 because budget matter/military planning law 2014/19 always 6 years after delivery resume.

French AF get right now for Transport : 6 A-400M, 14 C-130H, 9 C-160, 28 C-160NG, 27 CN 235 more litlle but help well with old C-160.

FRANCE
Reunion-based frigate NIVOSE, seriously damaged in an engine room fire in late Sep, in early January will be towed to Mauritius for repairs … return to service in fall 2015 … French navy reportedly unable to fill the gap.
