French Navy Evaluated the Future F3R Standard of the Rafale with Meteor Missiles
k9iTDkG.jpg

From 1st to 4th December 2014, pilots of the French Navy Naval Aviation Practical Experimentation Center (centre d’expérimentations pratiques de l’aéronautique navale - CEPA) participated in the first evaluation campaign of the Rafale's future F3R standard. This campaign allowed the French Navy to test the fire control of the new MBDA Meteor long range air to air missile in an operational context (while in flight) and to propose improvements to the system.

Thanks to the range of the Meteor missile and the detection range of the new active electronically scanned array (AESA) RBE2 radar, Rafale F3R will have an unmatched interception capability.

Vector Aerospace UK, a leading provider of aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, has announced the agreement of a long term contract to provide structural maintenance and technical support for the French Navy’s Lynx Mk.4 helicopter fleet. The company’s Fleetlands facility in Gosport, Hampshire, has the only main build/repair jig for this aircraft type in the world, making Vector the leading supplier of deep structural repairs on the Lynx platform. The five year programme, with an additional two year option, could see the first aircraft arrive as soon as December 2014. Vector Aerospace will also support the MRO operations through technical visits to the Lynx bases in France to assist the French Navy’s support organisation for the aircraft.

This work follows a previously contracted deep repair task on a single French Navy Lynx carried out in 2013. Vector Aerospace completed the programme within the space of only five months, the aircraft being inducted into the facility in August and returned into service in December, an impressive turnaround time given the extent of the work.Vector Aerospace has an extensive track record of support for the Lynx platform. The Fleetlands facility has been the sole provider of depth maintenance and modification support to the Royal Navy and Army Lynx fleet for 36 years. This has included all marks of Lynx up to and including the Mark 9A.“The award of this contract by the French Navy is an important milestone for Vector Aerospace UK”, said Managing Director Michael Tyrrell. “The contract further expands Vector Aerospace’s support to military operators around the world. Our high standards, reliable work-rate and skilled workforce are amongst the best in the MRO industry and make us a recognised centre of excellence for depth Lynx maintenance”.

Airbus Helicopters has delivered the first two upgraded Tiger attack helicopters in the HAD Block 2 configuration to the French army. The new “navalised” aircraft – they can be used from ships – were qualified by the French directorate for armament on 21 November ahead of their delivery on 10 December, Airbus says. The new configuration offers improved targeting for rockets; additional combat fuel tanks for longer endurance; an extension of the flight domain in which Rafael Spike and Lockheed Martin Hellfire missiles can be fired; and new digital communications.HAD Block 2 aircraft will be operated by GAMSTAT – the aero-mobility group belonging to the technical division of the French Army – before being assigned to the 1st Army Combat Helicopter Regiment, located at the Phalsbourg-Bourscheid air base in France’s Moselle region.

Work is still going on the second Mistral Class with the first still held up let's see how long France will play this game

Personally handing over those two units would be a disaster for the region no question they will be used again Europe in the near future

Royal Navy might as well get hold of the acoustic signature and electronic emissions from France now cus RN SSN are going to be tagging those LHD pretty soon which is good but not that good since it will tie down a lot of RN resources to keep those two LHD tagged when deployed

If Russia decided to build two more then one of the new UK carriers will be pretty much up in the Arctic regions holding off Russia further stretching the naval fleet

The carrier battle group around the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, will leave Toulon in mid-January to get to the Gulf, where its aircraft will take part in strikes in Iraq. The departure is scheduled just after the president will be presented his wishes to the hosts, at a ceremony on board. The Charles de Gaulle should stay several months "in the zone" and its Rafale could then take over from those of the Air Force, based in the Emirates.
With the Rafale, Super-Etendard of 17F still part of Carrier Air Group, their withdrawal is expected in 2016.
