This Admiral Gilday say 2022 or 2023, Blinken says next 2 to 3 years, Robert O'Brien (Trump era NSA) says 2024, Admiral Richardson says 2026.
Looks like the Americans are debating the date to pull that false flag. I suppose they want it to happen before China officially surpasses the US official GDP.

False flag? They're gonna try to pull a USS Liberty kind of stunt against China? Surely they aren't dumb enough to do that.
Once China gets a lot of stealth platforms, its likely that Japan and SK will get very cold feet about aiding an American invasion.
I would not be too surprised if they do attack in the time span of 1-3 years. The logical thing is to avoid conflict, build up at home, get a favorable deal to end the current proxy war etc. But militarist and ultra nationalist regimes are seldom logical.
Beijing itself ain't stupid either. If US is on the warpath, they would have seen it since ages ago. China likely already increased vastly its stockpiles of relevant equipment, which they can do by fudging the numbers for military spending.

I was half-joking in relation to daifo's comment above mine. But you got to wonder why the Americans keep "year-setting" AR. Is China really looking to resolve the issue in the next few years, or the Americans want to trigger a conflict in that timeline? It could also be both.

I feel like there is a faction in the US that is actively pushing for conflict.
I feel all factions in the US push for conflict. The only thing that changes amongs them is who gets to be the focus of their phobias, for some is China, for others is Russia, Iran, some are just happy couping countries in Africa or Latin America, and so on.
US does not want war with a near peer that can actually fight back. US just wants a large boogeyman to justify ever larger defense spending. Too bad Ukraine is a near black-hole in terms of spending/weapons aid/support, so it's in China's best interest for Russia to keep going (successfully) to draw resources away from China/Asia-Pacific region.
The military-types think of every possible contingency, it's their job to think of every possible scenario, however unlikely, but do not represent mainstream or political elite opinions.
