Females in Chinese Military Service

I agree as well. Women should not served in front line infantry units. A woman POW will naturally be subjected differently no just from the standpoint of the enemy but on the friendly side as well. It will cause unnecessary emotional not to mention political ramifications that may not necessarily happen to a male POW.
Generally speaking a woman just do not not have the upper body strength of a male as well. In a firefight or in some seriously messed up situation the squad leader etc may also second guess his orders to a female subject while he wouldn't think twice of his male soldiers.
I mean the story of Jessica Lynch is one! There are countless others. I don't think women should serve on board subs either and definitely not in an SSBN. Surface combatants or other large ships no problem.

If they break a finger nail during a fire fight. would it be regarded as a battle casualty
@vesicles it just occurred to me, I've never seen a Caucasian female astronaut look like a Penthouse centefold girl of the month.

Women have a place in combat, just not necessarily in the same role as men. It's indisputable that on average, women are physically weaker than men. However, physical strength is not the determining factor in modern warfare.

A commander needs to know the strengths and weaknesses of his squad mates, so I don't see that as an issue. All soldiers need to pass basic training, which means they're capable of a minimum standard of physical abilities. That said, I think it's probably more effective for women to be in their own squads, so female commanders would better understand the physical capabilities of her female soldiers.

As for the issue of POW, unfortunately war is ugly, and ugly things happen in war. Our culture conditions us to think that it's better for a woman to die than to suffer being raped, but I think that's just ingrained sexism. Men can be raped too, but we don't make nearly as big a deal out of it.

The CPC has a pretty extensive history of women martyrs, so it's not exactly something new. There are plenty of records of female soldiers on both sides during the Sino-vietnamese war.

I think that would be call a statistically disingenuous fact LOL!
I mean I don't think you will see Penthouse or any magazine's centerfolds in most professions nevermind astronaut! The fact that they became magazine centerfolds is probably because they are much better looking than the average person in the population!

That's like saying you don't see a lot of former Navy SEALs waiting tables at Applebees. Is there anything wrong with waiting tables? No, of course not.. but a former Navy SEAL will most likely not wait tables after his separation from the Navy.

One of our Lt.Commanders who captained one of our frigates worked as a doorman in one of our finest hotels for a while. He resigned from the navy after loosing his command.

Resigned?!? Or DC?

It happened 20+ yrs ago. I think the navy maintain that he was only made acting captain of the frigate and when he wasn't given the position on a continual basis he reverted back to his former rank. It made the newspapers because he challenged his demotion and loss of command. He was a pretty outspoken sort of person and had been ruffling a few feathers up the ranks.
A couple of my friends brothers served with him.

03.17.2014...There are 90 female PLAN (Chinese) sailors aboard the PLAN (Chinese) aircraft carrier Liaoning. All working in different ratings they are well represented on board the ship. The Chinese captions state that the women are treated equally as the men aboard.

Wow, the winter training pics really reflect the ever rising military budget. I still remember the days when PLA soldiers did everything with the good old ghetto rubber shoes and bare hands. Now they have adequate equipments for everything they do.

By the way, looking the pic with the skis, it looks like the officers just bought a bunch of them from the local sports supply store, instead of receiving them from the armed forces' logistics department. All the skis look like they're just off the shelf.
I guess it's good. At least it won't cost $10000 per ski just because it's "military grade".
