F-35 fighter helmets are going to be in the United States.

Elbit Systems and its partner in the United States, Rockwell Collins, were chosen by the Pentagon and Lockheed Martin to make helmets for the F-35 Lightning II, Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon said in a statement.

“I congratulate Elbit Systems on becoming a partner in this global flagship project to produce the world’s most advanced warplane,” said Yaalon.

“The choice of Elbit Systems to produce the pilots’ helmets is a vote of confidence in Israel’s defence industries and their people,” he added.

State-owned Israel Military Industries is already part of the F-35 project.

Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of the F-35, said that it decided to halt development on an “alternate helmet” and focus exclusively on the one that will be produced by Elbit Systems and Rockwell Collins.

“The F-35’s Helmet Mounted Display Systems provide pilots with unprecedented situational awareness; all the information pilots need to complete their missions – through all weather, day or night – is projected on the helmet’s visor,” says the company. “Additionally, the F-35’s Distributed Aperture System streams real-time imagery from six infrared cameras mounted around the aircraft to the helmet, allowing pilots to ‘look through’ the airframe.”

The F-35 Lightning II is a 5th generation fighter, combining advanced stealth with fighter speed and agility, and advanced sensor information.

The US is moving ahead with standing the F-35 up, the Aussies have rolled back their start-up to take advantage of significant price savings coming as each new batch of F-35s are built, they are becoming much more efficient and therefore cheaper. While others have cut their buy, the Aussies are still hoping to stand up most of their desired complement, and have choosen roll-back as the most practical means of doing so, while still maintaining their partnership dominance, along with the UK, as well as the production of many sub-assemblies for all the partners. Way to go. brat

Can these helmet mounted display be used on the F-22 pilot? I figure because since the F-22 is the air superiority fighter therefore it would also need it.

Great idea and the Raptor was supposed to be getting a helmet mounted sight, but that may be off with sequestration, but no the F-35 helmet is not compatible with the Raptors fire control system, although it would be a nice addition, and I hope the Raptor does get its helmet mounted sight, but the Raptor boys still do it the old fashioned way, Cha-Ching! brat

The main problem is software integration, and the F-22's avionics is very difficult to program and develop for. Increment 3.2 is extremely expensive (it's $8 billion dollars to attempt to integrate advanced SDB functionality, AIM-9X, AIM-120D, and MADL), and they've already dropped the helmet sight due to technical challenges.

Future Block 5, for 2020 about with 2 AIM-120 on the mainly internal weapons stations for a total of 6.
F-22 carry 8 AAM, T-50 and J-20 6/8.

And AAM missiles have a chance to intercept the target of about 50% due to evasive maneuvers, decoys ...

Ofc with weapons on external hardpoints F-35 can carry 14 missiles, F-22 16, Sukhoi 10... but no stealth then.

Her APG-81 get a range about 160 km vs one target dop about 1 m2 as Rafale, Typhoon, Su-35, F-22 with APG-77, 200.

F-35 have one rcs of 0,0013 m2 in front and 0,01 back.
F-22 0.0001/ 0,001

In general when we see figures on rcs it is for front, less good for back and side.

The F-35 is more careful on the front for attack Front ground targets, especially SAM double digit.

The best stealth airccraft for her back/side are B-2 but more large, bomber and mainly YF-23, the best.
