re: F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Thread

Would the success of the F-15SE be a threat to the F-35 program? I mean there will always be a need for the F-35B and F-35C, but what about the F-35A?

The US is committed to the F-35 program, including the largest number to the F-35A. The F-35A was never envisioned as an aircraft to replace the F-15E..

In Korea is may F-15SE may have won out, but there are good reasons for that, and there are already numerous customers for the F-35A and its price continues to drop.

The US Air Force would be well served to upgrade all of its F-15Es to F-15SEs. And that would not impact the F-35A purchase by the USAF at all. The F-35A will end up numbering 1750 or so and replace a completely different set of aircraft (F-16, A-10, and ultimately perhaps the F-15C, etc.).

Guys, can we move the discussion of the F-15SE and Koreas purchase of it and its plusses and minuses over to the ROK Military News Thread? Or a new thread on the ROK F-15SE?

It's getting pretty OT here on the F-35 thread.

Thanks>

Latest cost estimates are in. F-35 program lifetime cost estimates DROP by 22% to $857 billion over 55 years.

Reason? Actual data about the airplane's performance and revised assumptions about how it will be used in combat.

Boeing is a pretty shrewd company. Looks like their PR for the South Koreans pitch for their F-15SE got the Lockheed Martin boys nervous about their F-35 might losing out therefore wetting their pants.;)

Other than that this might turn out to be a good thing for the F-35 in the long run. Like Jeff said if productions keep on rolling than the price will decrease as well.

$85 million for the F-35A? Not bad for a 5th gen fighter, even if it doesn't have supercruise.

Video of F-35B in twilight operations off os USS Wasp
Absolutely LOVE that video!

We are talking about a commissioned USS Wasp operating an in service, US Marine active Squadron aircraft off of her deck.

Not a prototype, not a manufacturer's test aircraft...but an in service US Marine aircraft. The F-35B is going to add a huge new dimension to US Navy Amphibious Assault carriers and a lot of worry to any adversary!
