Not necessarily. Carl Vinson has already left the scene and in case the aircraft can't be recovered, they destroy the wreckage with depth charges.

I'm sure the US is not leaving it behind if they haven't recovered it already.
I mentioned recently in another thread about my friend's sister's baby daddy who let's everyone know he was a Marine that I get into "debates" with because he likes to wrap the American flag around himself. I don't start it. Well he recently bragged about that US naval ship that got within visual range of China's aircraft carrier acting like it was a battle the US won. And then I brought up the Kitty Hawk incident with a Chinese Song class sub which was much more badass than getting within visual range. Then he traded claiming the Liaoning breaks down all the time. I haven't heard that happening but I wasn't going to say that to him but instead mentioned, "Like the USS Zumwalt, the US's latest and most advanced warship has already been decommissioned because it breaks down too many times...?" For a Marine that talks about the military all the time, he doesn't know anything. He then started to tell me to move to China and wave the CCP flag. I told him I thought Republicans hate political correctness and political correctness is about hiding the truth from people who can't take it. He shut up after that because he was the very thing he hated and I realized that for him. Americans grow up not being told the truth so they get people like this Marine thinking the US is invincible and therefore why they're always advocating a US military attack on some country. This Marine was of those that never shuts up because that would be losing. He shut up after I turned him into a little child who can't handle the truth being told so he's lied to all the time. That's why it's all right to taunt every F-35 that takes a swim because it makes these idiots think twice before they get a lot of people killed.

Even small pieces are valuable. If it’s in the sea, then there must be a huge race on right now to recover it, surely China is favorite due to the location.
When an F35 crashed off Japan recently the US issued some serious threats not to interfere in its recovery.

Well people like him don't think for themselves. They're just repeating what someone else or FoxNews told them. You just have to know more and they won't be able to return fire.
They are planning to retrieve it, depth charge it or torpedo it could be an option in the news... they are clearly in hot water over there.
