Supercruise is a big deal, sad the F-35 will not have that capability, but accelerated to Mach 1.8 and then pull the throttles back out of burner, and you will prolly have 10 minutes or so of supercruise in dry thrust??? and a commensurate fuel savings for those ten minutes?? even though you will burn a bunch accelerating her to Mach 1.8?

I think we should give credit to the F-35 designers that they actually know what they are doing. The F-35 design is to equip for future wars. Stealth is a key component and that includes its IR profile. The nature of sonic cone increases significantly the IR footprint when going supersonic as evident by 3 X detection range and almost 10 X detection area. In view of increasing IR sensor range, I believe future tactics will evolve to vectoring into position and not simply sprinting from point A to B.

This statement I am going to make relates to the overall status of 5th generation stealth aircraft, and particularly to the place the F-35 is shaping up holding within it.

Every nation on earth who can try and develop 5th generation stealth is trying to do so.

Many of those who cannot, are buying it from those who can.

Those who cannot afford to do that, are left looking to develop or buy 4+ generation aircraft to hold their own.

The US (who already have two 5th generation stealth aircraft operational and have built and deployed over 300 5th gen stealth aircraft), China (who now has ten 5th gen stealth aircraft - 9 prototypes and one apparent production model. J-20 (9), J-31 (1)), Russia, (who has five prototype stealth aircraft), Japan, India, and South Korea all have their own 5th generation stealth aircraft programs at one degree of development or another. Japan will probably be the next nation to fly one, albeit a technology demonstrator.

A number of western countries have partnered with the US in the development of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter 5th generation stealth aircraft and have helped (to one degree or another) fund it and develop it. Of the original eight countries that partnered with the US (Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Turkey, the United Kingdom) , five of those nations have already received one or more of their first aircraft and are flying and testing them...that's the UK, Netherlands, Norway, Australia, and Italy.. In addition, two of the three foreign customers, Israel, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, will be receiving their first aircraft in 2016.

So, by the end of 2016, you will have all of the following countries flying the F-35A or F-35B

The US (All three branches have numerous aircraft now and the Marines have IOC)
The UK
The Netherlands
Australia
Norway
Italy
Japan
South Korea
Israel

The argument against the F-35 in particular or waxing very old...and at this point, disproven. The orders and the progress speaks for themselves.

When you add in Russia and China, it means that in 2016 there will be eleven countries fluing 5th generation stealth aircraft of five varieties...nine of which will be flying the F-35.

US - F-22 and F-35
UK - F-35
Australia - F-35
Russia -PAK FA
Netherlands - F-35
Japan - F-35 and its ATD-X
South Korea - F-35
China - J-20 and J-31
Norway - F-35
Italy - F-35
Israel - F-35

The technology and its impact is going to do nothing but continue to expand and seriously impact air combat over the next several decades.

Pretty impressive when taken altogether.

F-35 supposed supercruise to full dry thrust able but very limited mach 1.2 max also a problem for do it you have to push hard engine and the IR signature is big.

I resume, long for write and the matter is technical ! but very interesting :)

F-35 supposed supercruise to full dry thrust able but very limited mach 1.2 max also a problem for do it you have to push hard engine and the IR signature is big.
F-22 have a very good up to mach 1.75 ! Rafale 1.4, Typhoon 1.5, T-50 1.6 announced...

For climb rate it is not bad as F-15/16, 254m/sec of less as Rafale/Typhoon 305/310 and F-22/T-50 are true rockets 350 and 360 ? !!!

For turn rate he is mainly less good, much, for sustained turn rate enough close a F-16 instantaneous turn rate F-35/F-16C 28/18 and F-35 26/10.

The best Rafale, EF, F-22 especially instantaneous 35/36°/sec a turn in 10 sec and sustained 27/28°
We have need chart for see better but i am not sure possible now before i have do, eventually i post a Excel file later.

What you mean about climb rate/ instantaneous, sustained rate especialy why F-35 have a enough good climb/ instantaneous rate seems but much less good sustained turn rate why this difference ?

Pls explain me simply :)

For look the best a chart but i think no possible do it here now and damage , possible before i have do can you confirm me, eventually i do later a chart with Excel.

Interesting crosswind landing video of F-35B during the recent "expeditionary" air field tests at Camp Pendleton and 29 Palms.
The background music on this video may not be to your liking.

Quick question Jeff -- why are countries like Japan, Israel, and South Korea getting the F-35 earlier than Turkey, which is an original partner?

Quick question Jeff -- why are countries like Japan, Israel, and South Korea getting the F-35 earlier than Turkey, which is an original partner?

Perceived need, and stated desire to move up into the que, I would imagine that Turkey may be feeling the need, and they may ask to move up as well?

Israel, South Korea, and Japan are all close defensive partners with the US, they have a long history of co-operation, as does Turkey, and have inter-operability agreements with the US.

Turkey is feeling the heat right now, and the BHO team is not a very faithful partner, if you will notice Russia is sending the US warm fuzzies of promise of cooperation in the war on terror, Turkey did what they felt they needed to do, and the Russians/Putin is going to attempt to muscle them, BHO lacks the spine to stand with our allies, unless forced by Congress/Senate.
