And Northrop gets in on the act.

Looks like their plant up in the Palmdale area. I would have thought it would have been in Hawthorne.

I believe it is in Palmdale, and the automated line manufactures the center fuse/wing junction box, the primary piece of structure to which every thing else is attached, one of the real drivers as costs go down!

F-35 Flight Control System

AFB, This article is specially written for you.

To continue with a few thoughts on the FCS, that is one of the main drivers allowing the F-35 to be cranked back to 110 degrees angle of attack, the FCS maintains aircraft stability, that and the fabulous LockMart hi-lift aerodynamic technology give this airplane an incredible pitch transition even without OVT. Lots of people beat on the F-35, yes it is heavy, and it is a good sized airplane to throw around, the secret to its prowess is this awesome FCS, combined with the tremendous lift generator that it is.

If it were as light as some other fighters, it would be crushing to fly, as it is, it will generate at least 9.9 Gs in the A model. That FCS will eventually be tweaked to give us all we need, at present it is very conservative and safe, much like the early F-16s which was our first fly by wire aircraft, that birds limitations were eventually lifted to provide it the agility for which it is now famous----but, its not as safe as it was, it is a very maxed out aircraft, requiring flight crew to max out as well, if they want to get everything out of it that it is capable of??? the F-35 will follow this same track to open up its envelope, trust me on this, it will be a "crusher".

F-35 2015 year end summary.

Great video...the beat is going on and on...lost of great accomplishments in the year.

More than 160 aircraft now delivered. Aircraft actively stationed at 10 bases now. Six nations are now flying F-35s (US, UK, AUS, Italy, Norway, Netherlands ) Price down a whopping 57% since LRIP 1. More than 300 pilots and maintenance personnel already trained.

Gotta love it all.

First Japanese-built F-35 Begins Assembly

WASHINGTON — In a key milestone for the international program, the first Japanese-built F-35 joint strike fighter began its assembly today at a facility in Nagoya, Japan.

The aircraft, known as the AX-5, officially began the “mate” process today when its wings, fuselage and tails joined together for the first time to form the structure, the joint program office said in a Dec. 15 statement.

AX-5 is the first F-35A assembled in Japan and will join the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force fleet in 2017.

The first four of Japan’s planned 42 planes are in various stages of production at Lockheed Martin’s F-35 facility in Forth Worth, Texas. The first, AX-1, is slated for delivery in 2016.

The remaining 38 Japanese aircraft will be assembled and delivered in Japan from the Nagoya factory, according to the statement.

Another milestone before the year is done. Japan will have its first F-35 by next year.

Another installment of F-35 myth busting.

Excellent and to the point analysis of the capabilities and threats the F-35 will bring to the battle and neutralize. The F-35 will have all the kinematic performance it needs to maintain air superiority over any known or emerging threat. I may be the only one predicting this, but soon, maybe sooner than later, some smart F-35 jockey is going to get the drop on a Raptor, you mark my word, it will happen.

That doesn't mean the F-22 isn't the best, there is no doubt it is the most capable air to air platform on the planet. What it does mean is that the F-35 is bringing a full bag of tricks to every engagement, and the F-35 has the capability to defeat ANY 3rd or 4th gen, or 4+, the Raptor is the only real question mark?

As I noted a few days ago, the F-16 was hindered initially by its safety features, just as the video today explained in depth, that the F-35 was hindered by its departure resistant commands in the FCS. Those features will be relaxed as the pilot community begins to push this aircraft to and past its present limits.
