Any additional info or sources on this? If so, that seems to be a win win scenario. Pakistan would be able to immediately field more frigates. PLAN can reallocate seasoned crews to newer ships being commissioned.

PN requested Chinese authorities to bring 053H2G to F22P level along with complete over hall which will extend the life for another 10 - 15 years.
If Chinese news portals are to be believed. (I have no reason to doubt them, they are generally fairly accurate). The PLAN is transferring four of its older Jiangwei Class FFG (Type053H2G) to the China Coast Guard as patrol cutters. They are being painted Coast Guard white and its all their heavy weapons removed as we speak.
Those four are 25 years old with inadequate air defense by its HQ61 SAM, transferring them to the China Coast Guard while they still have some service life left seems logical.
All weapons removed except 2 turrets with 2 x 37 mm

Good and this platform still has like and coast guard is needing ships so only makes good sense

Work appears to be underway to modify a number of Type 053H2G 'Jiangwei I'-class frigates for transfer from the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) to the China Coast Guard.
Photographs show two 'Jiangwei I' frigates alongside at a naval shipyard in Pudong, Shanghai, one of which has had most of its armament removed and the hull painted white. Limited work has been undertaken on the second so far.
According to IHS Jane's Fighting Ships , four ships of the 'Jiangwei I' class were built and commissioned between 1991 and 1994. With a length of 112 m and beam of 12 m, the ships displace around 2,300 tonnes in naval guise, with 2 shafts driven by two diesel engines.
The ship undergoing modification has had the YJ-83 anti-ship missile launchers, HQ-61 surface-to-air missile (SAM) launcher and the twin 100 mm gun turret removed, as well as the two aft twin 37 mm gun mountings. The two forward twin 37 mm mountings are currently still in place.

Great pics and these vessels rarely get discussed. I'm a little surprised PLAN hasn't done anything with these 6 vessels considering they were built the same time as the 053H2s and those are now being reported being converted for CG duty. These vessels are definitely second tier and even becoming less capable of holding its own when comparing to the transforming Vietnamese navy, much less the JMSDF. Given the rather large crew number for size of ship, I hope as more 056s get commissioned, they simply decommission these vessels to free up these experienced crews to man those newer vessels. With no fight deck nor hangar, I think they are best cleaned up and donated/sold cheaply to friendly nations as soft power investments. If the missiles were removed, they do make rather decent OPVs.

These 053H1G Frigates are still doing the front line patrol duties in South China Seas, sailing as far as the southern parts of Spratly islands regularly.
Except air defence capability, and having done about 20 years service, I think these 6 ships are still very good for patrol roles. Below is the CIC of the frigate 561.
