I would've thought the data on 2000s aircraft gathered by 1950s aircraft might be more useful than the data on 1950s aircraft gathered by 2000s aircraft, but what do I know LOL
oh course you would have, but what you may not realize is that those old Bears have a fully updated avionics and weapons suite, and can carry multiple updated cruise missiles, which are very dangerous to the continental United States, and now the Soviets weapon of choice for those updated Bears, feel free to post a link...
I get your point, I would have NEVER worn those damned Raptor's out the way we have, they should have been on a long range tactical reserve, limiting flight hours to actual necessary mission sets, the Raptor also has a much more rapid intercept time than anything else on the planet when we take its awesome supercruise into acct....
The F-22 is going to be pulled back, and the long but worthwhile process of "SLEPing" those birds will begin,,, the 80% readiness rate is an outstanding idea, it will take time and lots and lots of Greenbacks, but be worth every dime...
In the meantime, I'm expecting to see the F-35 begin to pick up these mission sets, as well it should...

hold it, how would they know up at Elmendorf what the incoming Bears carried on take off? it doesn't take an Air Force General to realize an approaching turboprop isn't going to start WWThree, I mean why scramble Raptors and not F-15s huh
they have no clue whether those bears are armed or not, that's why they fly intercepts, and while the F-15s would do a fine job, the Raptors will likely remain stationed at Elmendorf for just that reason, they fly at much higher altitudes for a much better radar intercept picture...

I do honestly agree with you, but I imagine the Raptor is a much better platform for those overwater intercepts for a number of reasons..
In any regard, in the Air Force assessment of "RedFlag 2019", the Air Force has resurrected the Hi/Lo concept, but due to changes the F-22 and F-35 are both regarded as HI end, while the F-15 as a 4Gen has been "downgraded" to LO...

Let's not because both of you are missing a critical point here.
Where would the F15 have come from?
Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson is home of the Third Wing which flies Raptors, C130J, C17A and E3 the 176th wing group C130H2, HC130P and HH60G and C17 and the 673rd Air base wing which are Support no aircraft they have a dentist but not fighters.
There is also the 3rd SOS but they use M4A1 Carbines so no dice there. The 381st Intelligence Squadron desk type folks.
No F15s on deck. There is also the 25th Infantry Division 4th Infantry Brigade combat team (Airborne) but I doubt anything they have can deal with a Bear in the air.
The F15 Squadron that was based at JBER the 19th Fighter Squadron left in 2010.
I'm aware of that, but I do think we have run those poor girls hard and put them away wet, a 5 Gen takes a lot of love and a lot more money to care for, but I'm very happy we have the F-35 coming right along, and I am amazed at what an awesome A2A platform it has become, stay tuned for the F-35 Demo with "Dojo"!
