160 bucks for a ticket... man...
it's only 160 RMB, which is... less than $30CDN. it's cheaper than the CN tower.

it's an expo, not some sporting event where there are a limited number of seats available. the area is huge and it lasts for 5 months, so i doubt the tickets can be sold out at all. In fact, i don't think there is a set limit on how many tickets can be sold in total.

At 30$, the CN tower is a rip-off, which is why I've never went up even though I've been living in Toronto for 10 year now. :)

160 RMB is okay for me and my wife. Then you add in her parents, who is going to be visiting Shanghai with us (which means I'll have to pay...), her cousin, my parents, my two cousins... That's 160x9 = 1440 RMB.

As for China leading the world... I would like to see a multi-polar world working together instead of superpowers jockeying for the number 1 position. Who cares whose nation is #1? I'd much rather see humanity working together and, say, start colonizing Mars.

Agreed. We see a lot of contention between the United States and China right now but regardless of what the sabre-rattlers (on both sides) say both nations NEED one another to prosper.

In many fields, we are seeing that China has been starting to lead the way of thinking. We used to see Hollywood leading the way. China has more college students than the entire population of Taiwan. What kind of "brain power" will change the world? For many years to come that the average Chinese per capita will remain below many rich countries. In 1994, a Taiwanese newspaper made a statement: "The GDP of a 20 million people Taiwan is more than third of A billion people China. South Korea's GDP is 70% about China's. But 15 years later, Taiwan is about 8% of China; South Korea, 18% of China. My point: if 25% population reached the standard of the West, China will have more middle class than the entire population of the United States. Meanwhile, China will rewrite many books of humanity. Should we or should china or should BBC/CNN/CIA rethink the strategy of the humanity?

How about a few examples

We used to see Hollywood leading the way.

What Chinese made movie other than senseless slapstick 'Kung Fu' based movies set in some historical period with wonderfully choreographed fight scenes, yet in reality are physically impossible to do, movies have there been?

Outside of Asia what aspects of Chinese culture do you think can be readily asorbed by the West apart from Chop Suey, Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Pork, Egg Foo Yung and for the more daring, the occasional Yum Cha's.

Wow, it's statements like these that makes me doubt if your claim of Chinese ancestry. Seriously, it's just sad that you can only conceive of kung fu movies and chinese takeout as Chinese culture.

Ever heard of the "Butterfly Lovers"? Ever been to a Chinese New Year celebration in Toronto, New York, San Francisco, Vancouver? Ever visited an acupuncturist? Or a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner? Ever heard of the Pekin Opera, and Mei Lan Fang, who was making waves in the West in the early 20th century?

How many westerners don't know about Shaolin Monks, the Nanjing Massacre (thanks to Iris Chang), Mao Zedong, the Great Wall, the Forbidden Palace, the Terra Cotta Warriors, Feng Shui, Mahjong?

Where do you think the terms "chow down", "long time no see", "kow-tow", "chop-chop", "honcho" come from?

You still have doubts? bladerunner is as Chinese as General Tso's chicken. It's sad that he claims Chinese ancestry to legitimize his viewpoints.
