gCaptain said:
(EUNAVFOR) Following a coordinated search and detection by a French Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance aircraft, the German warship FGS KOELN, operating as part of the EU NAVFOR, disrupted a pirate action group comprising a whaler and skiff, 50 nautical miles off the coast of Tanzania. On detection, the suspect pirates jettisoned their pirate equipment overboard and were detained without resistance. They have been transferred onboard FGS KOELN and the two pirate boats sunk, preventing their use against merchant shipping in the area.

This is the same warship whose helicopter obliterated a pirate skiff off Somalia in September 2013.

X4DkUyX.jpg

According to the Polish MOD, invitations to start technical dialogue were sent to several submarine builders in late 2014. The Polish MOD just announced that four companies answered the invitations: France's DCNS, German company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems GmbH, Kockums from Sweden (in partnership with government agency FMV Forsvarets Materielverk.) and Navantia of Spain.

Answers to the technical dialogue will help in defining requirement and moving forwards with the contracting process. The current goal is to close the dialogue phase in March and officially open the tender during the summer.

The trial, executed on 21 November 2013, consisted of four Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles (ESSM) being directed by APAR to four targets. The trial was successful: all launched missiles performed a successful intercept. In the first part of the trial, a Banshee drone was eliminated by a missile launched by the new Royal Danish Navy Frigate HDMS Peter Willemoes (Iver Huitfeldt-class).

Yes. These are really very strong DDGs at 6,800 tons, carrying 32 SM-II AAW missiles, 24 ESSM AAW missiles and 16 ASuW Missiles. That's a total loadout of 82 missiles. Then 2 x 76mm DP guns, a 35mm CIWS, 2 x 3 Torpedo launchers and a heli pad and hanger.

These three with the two Absalon class gives the Danish Navy five very strong surface combatants for their navy's main surface action vessels.

The following video is of a Finnish Air Force F-18 training in take-offs from a two lane public road. It was filmed during a Warkaus military exercise on Highway 5 in Joroinen, Finland. This type of training has been conducted by Finland and other nations in Central, Eastern and Northern Europe and involves the dispersal of aircraft to any number of sites in case of attack. (Skip ahead to the 1 minute mark to get to just before the take off.)

The army gets a new light machine gun (LMG), and the choice fell on the U.S. M60 E6 in caliber 7.62 mm from the company U.S. Ordnance.
The old LMG M/62 been developed for stationary battle where maskingeværets weight and balance is not as crucial as it is today, where the shooter has to bear arms and ammunition during long deployments walking in difficult terrain.

Several types of light machine guns in caliber 7.62 millimeter were evaluated prior to the ordering of the new LMG, and at the end in the final was finally chosen between HK121 and the winner M60 E6.
Experienced LMG-shooters who have previously been deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq have tested the weapons with a focus on ergonomics, operation, accuracy, and integration with other soldier's equipment. It has among other things made throughput of obstruction, response and acting courses, marching, field and garrison shifts and patrol duties.

It is also in the process of getting a reticle package for the new weapon. The aim is to increase the athlete's ability to observe, identify and increase the precision of the night and in conditions of reduced visibility due to fog or smoke. Aim funds will be thoroughly tested with LMG M60 E6 and expected to be delivered in 2015.

Reticle The package will include:
• Machine Optics, daylight • Machine optics, thermal • Tactical light laser
red dot sights •
• Laser Rangefinder
• collimator / Bore Sight Laser • Natsigte

LMG M60 E6 comes with better ammo bags, including tape bag for 200 cartridges, flexible vekselpibehylster in fire-resistant material bag for maintenance equipment and padded strap with zip closure.

Benefits of LMG M60 E6 to the shooter:
• The weight is 9.35 kg, which is approx. 3 kg lighter than the old LMG M/62, and the weight is better distributed.
• Better control of alternative shooting positions such as kneeling and standing.
• Lower shot cadence of about 550 rounds per minute compared to about 1200 for LMG M/62, which increases shooter's accuracy, reduces ammunition consumption significantly and minimizes the risk of unintended damage (Collateral Damage).
• Ability to deliver one shot at a time.
• Less recoil, which increases the athlete's ability to observe and correct for accuracy.
• Better options for mounting special screens and other extra accessories such as tactical light laser mm
• Stable adjustable stand.
• Quick pipe change is possible without the use of gloves.

Defence purchased approximately 700 pieces, which is scheduled for delivery in late 2014.
