I forgot to tell my final prediction: Throughout all of China's decline, as its economy gets worse, it falls further and further behind, its population and power disappear... the Chinese nationalists will keep saying everything is good, too strong economy is bad, power is bad, people is bad, success is bad, they are happy to see China decline because less pollution, who needs China anyway? China is happy to be a small, weak country, poor, isolated, hated by all, and disappearing. They will insist to the end it is all good and better.
That is a terrible prediction.
It's much more likely that in 20 years time, the Chinese economy will be 2x larger than the USA and technologically world leading.
The Chinese government and Chinese business are fully behind the desire to replace US technology with domestic alternatives that cannot be sanctioned.
That will continue to drive explosive growth in Chinese R&D spending, which is already at 2.4% of GDP today and still growing. Every other low-income or middle-income country is stuck at low productivity levels with R&D spending of less than 1.1%.
That will help drive productivity improvements in China, and likely means China will escape the middle-income trap and become a high-income country.
