So much for decapitating China's economy the trade deficit grew 75% from the time Trump starting to excise tariff

China’s trade boom defies new Cold War

China’s supply chains are only source of many products and any cut in exports to US would cause critical shortages of essential goods

NEW YORK – China’s exports to the United States reached a new peak of nearly $700 billion in March, according to data released by the country’s statistics agency.

That compares with a seasonally adjusted annual rate of just $410 billion in August 2019, when the Trump administration imposed tariffs on a wide range of Chinese imports.

Bill Clinton use to say "It is economy stupid" He is right China meteoric rise in economy is shaping up the world in her image like it or not. good article here. DXP was wise in concentrating on the economy first in the first 2 decades of reform. Eschewing politic and involvement in world affair keep your head low. But those days ore over there is no more place to hide China need to formulate a more engaging foreign and military policy. But sadly no more men with the stature of DXP who can change the direction with confidence. Xi is not bad but he care taker and keep the keel steady. But probably that is the only choice that he has for now. BTW no more mocking of getting old before getting rich. China will advance into wealthy country this year. LKY is prescient when he predict the unstoppable rise of China

Economic Weight Is Power. China Is Gaining

But China’s miracle economic growth over the past four decades at an average rate four times that of the U.S. has created a new global economic order. The day when China could be thought of as a “near peer competitor”—as Washington keeps trying to call it—is over. Today and for the foreseeable future, China will be a full-spectrum peer competitor.

Economic weight creates the substructure of power in international relations. While gross domestic product doesn’t automatically translate into military or economic strength, if history is our guide, nations with larger GDPs over time have proportionally greater influence in shaping international affairs. In the succinct summary of Singapore’s founder, Lee Kuan Yew, “China is sucking countries into its economic system because of its vast market and growing purchasing power.” One hundred and thirty countries now trade more with China than they do with the U.S., and more than two-thirds of those countries trade twice as much with China. Moreover, while China is carefully reducing its dependence on imports from others, it is deepening global dependence on itself. As Xi Jinping has said, it is “tightening international production chains’ dependence on China [to] form a powerful countermeasure and deterrent capability against foreigners who would artificially cut off supply to China.”

Yeah and all of those exports could be cut off overnight if the US wanted to. The West is willing to take a lot of pain.

You mean all those outsourced to China by American companies exports that won't have product to sell to consumers? Key word... "willing". Meaning they haven't done it. Why? Because it will hurt. The West has set itself up to be dependent on others for their living standards because they look to make as much money as they can and the least costs to them as possible. On the other hand because the West has always worked to isolated China meaning why you don't see many actually Chinese brand and owned products on US shelves, China isn't dependent on US consumers for their success. You can't lose something you didn't have in the first place meaning it does little to China when taken away.

And what are they waiting for? Let me ask you this question. You probably assume that Americans can stand idly by and absorb all the inevitable pain such action would entail. You also make it seem like there won't be a political price to pay for either political party when economic pain ensues. America isn't the America of the 1950's, 60's, 70's, 80's, or 90's. American hyper power is over.

Another brazen display of Western hypocrisy. Perhaps they mean to say dictators who are subservient to their interests
