The Trump administration is just basically composed of right wing nuts.
Usually when the Republicans are in power, the normal right wingers are in control, although there could be and usually was a couple of right wing nuts in the government. The Trump administration was different, the right wing nuts had almost a majority and were in full control.
The way to beat the right wing nut, since they are stupid, they are easily outmaneuvered. After a couple of rounds of being outclassed by demonstrating no strategy, they undermine their own entire plan, rendering it useless and themselves ineffective.
