Discipline around low effort posts or poorly sourced posts

I've asked multiple times for mods to create a blacklist for sources. (@Deino). Even Wikipedia has a rigorously enforced criteria for secondary sources (e.g. Facebook and amateur blogs are banned.) Unless there is a rule, you can't enforce it.

Be fair to the mods. These days there are so many dodgy websites out there, and questionable "news" sources that republish any old rubbish, they'd be spending all their time adding to the list.

If possible, you'd have a white list you'd add to over time, like Jane's, etc. But that might be too restrictive. It would be more reasonable to have rules about what sources are ok, like they have to be in English or Chinese with a full English translation.

Everyone, do PM me if you want to be considered for a moderator.

I will only throw my opinion out there -- that I think any potential moderators should put their name forwards in a public way or be vetted for consideration of moderator-ship in a public way at least.

The last time that a moderator was made one without the public knowledge of the community, it was... messy.

I wanna nominate @plawolf + @Brumby + @ougoah + @TerraN_EmpirE + @ZeEa5KPul for modship

That'll be a good balance i think

So, this isn't a reflection about my opinions about the temperaments or the history of posting of the specific people you've mentioned, but I do think the goal of seeking moderators and a moderator "panel" shouldn't be based on the variety of differing or perhaps contrasting opinions they have to seek "balance" -- rather it should be based on how responsible and even keeled and mannered they are in terms of debates and discussions about topics that might be provocative or emotionally frustrating.

It also should include people who are appreciate and respect the methodology of PLA watching and the way in which the grapevine works.

That is to say, I think it would be unacceptable in the year of our lord 2020 to have a moderator on this forum who does not respect or acknowledge the way the PLA watching grapevine/system functions and the way the information percolates.

In that vein, some members I think the forum could benefit from as moderators, who have displayed sensible temperaments and contributions to the forum which are constructive, include:
@latenlazy
@jobjed
@Higgle
@weig2000
@taxiya
@by78

LOL I think mods are supposed to be individually balanced. I don't think you're supposed to balance them by having some highly pro-Chinese vs highly pro-Western mods. It would likely lead to a mod war.

Everyone, do PM me if you want to be considered for a moderator.
However, if the Webmaster sees no harm, I will nominate myself. I cannot claim to be unbiased in my opinions but I know how to apply and interpret rules. I would accept a moderator position if offered and use it impartially to enforce the rules of the forum, never to lay my opinion as the final word. I see the use of moderator powers to further one's own views as a weakness in debate skill and would never resort to such. Also, I am very diligent and active on a daily basis.

@WebMaster Additionally, I hold a PhD in medical genetics so I have a thorough understanding of the qualifications of evidence and the makings of evidence-based arguments. I have also taught university level courses (Emory University) so I have experience treating students with equality regardless of their attitudes, opinions, knowledge/skill levels, etc...
