Don't forget the LA riots all started with a couple of white police officers beating up an unarmed black man. I don't think you nor most of the members here would agree with that statement. For a person who professes to be so well-read about China your statement is shockingly naive.

The LA riots started because the Cops that perpetuated the beating were acquitted of most of the charges, but later were charged by the federal government for Civil rights violations.

It is not Anti-Chinese bias it is Anti-communist government of China bias.

I think it's both. Many times when posting the Chinese daily photos I've edited the captions because I felt the wording was biased against China. Many times.:(.

Notice how not a single Western news outlet has picked up the pictures showing Hans bleeding on the ground after being beaten to death, when those pictures are widely available on the internet?

All the photos below are from either the AP. Getty or Reuters.

I'm posting these photos below with the original captions.

At least 156 people have been killed in rioting in China's northwestern Xinjiang region, with the government blaming exiled separatists for the traditionally Muslim area's worst case of unrest in years.

If the China CCP wants to avoid a even bigger torrent of anger they need to treat both sides in this riot equally.

All people who took part in vandalism, violent civil disobedience, and vigilante justice need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Any proof that that's really the case?
To what point are you referring to the religious control or what?

Are you saying the suppression of stories, its distortion, or whatever, can lead people to murderous behaviour like bludgeoning innocent bystanders to death?

One cannot always predict human behaviour.and it can happen if the rumors are fallacious enough, look at the religious outbreaks with deaths etc , all over the world.
What do you think has made them murderous.?

The original story was a response by the Uighurs in the form of a peaceful rally as to what went on in Guandong , that got out of hand. Highly plausible given the amount of tension there is between some elements of the populace.
Meanwhile the authorities have not provided any evidence to support their, rather dubious, side of events have they?

Evidence showed that World Uyghur Congress had masterminded Sunday's deadly violence in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a Chinese counter-terrorism expert told Xinhua Tuesday.

"Judging from what Rebiya Kadeer, leader of the World Uyghur Congress, had said and done, it is fair to say the organization masterminded the incident," said Li Wei, director of the Center for Counter-Terrorism Studies with the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations.

"After the March 14 unrest in Tibet last year, Kadeer said in public that something similar should happen in Xinjiang. The riot in Urumqi bore some similarities with the March 14 incident."

Kadeer had been in close relations to the Dalai Lama, Li said, noting that the Xinjiang riot was regarded by experts as an "intentional imitation" of what happened in Lhasa.

"The riot was by no means incidental and spontaneous," he noted. "It was well organized as riots, targeting civilians, occurred at several locations at the same time."

Xinjiang police said Monday they had evidence that Rebiya Kadeer masterminded the Sunday riot, and had obtained recordings of calls between overseas Eastern Turkestan groups and their accomplices inside the country.

In the recorded calls, Kadeer said, "Something will happen in Urumqi." She also called her younger brother in Urumqi, saying, "We know a lot of things have happened," referring to the June 26 brawl involving workers from Xinjiang in a toy factory in Guangdong Province.

"This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China," Li said. "The World Uyghur Congress has chosen this specific time to do damage."

(Xinhua News Agency July 8, 2009)

Eastern Turkestan is a terrorist organization in Afghanistan to receive training from Al Qaeda, repeatedly sneaked into Xinjiang and to launch terrorist attacks, killing innocent people, and the US-led Western countries have covert support for the Terrorism organizations have a large number of deposits in Western countries, but the 911 incident, under international pressure, the United States and Western countries forced to officially announce an Eastern Turkestan terrorist organization, and a freeze on the organization of the deposits in the western countries .
However, the rise of China in the international community's influence growing, while the United States and the West's sagging national economy, they found that a strong China is a competitor, therefore, to weaken and divide China, meets their interests.
There was a conspiracy, the East Turkestan and some other organizations and individuals to join together in a face-lift, the establishment of the so-called World Uyghur Congress, in Europe and the United States, the legitimate activities, the organization's leader Rebiya Kadeer, now living in the United States, cooperation and the politicians. Western media, has always been to speak their own interests, that is: Why do they always demonize China, and is also a Palestinian Muslim, is also not their sympathy, a large number of Palestinian refugees,no one can enter the Western countries.

The truth is there's just no justification for murder.

So by your logic Chinese assailants should get treated in the same manner as the Uighurs?

Strictly speaking no there isnt.any excuse/
but some countries measure it in degrees and hence a lesser charge and resulting sentence.eg, The French in their crime of passion, and the middle eastern belief in honor killing.

Murder is a highly charged word
In the West anyway,To prove murder in the 'First Degree' you would have to PROVE INTENT

In my opinion a lot of the evidence in the clipping you provided is circumstancial, which can also be applied to some of your evidence.
I also think most posters here still resort to playing the victim card, time to move on.

What created the discontent amongst the uighers is the economic reform which started from the 1980s, they simply cant compete with the Han chinese.
What caused all the violence is the policy of Show lenniency for minorities when they commit crimes, a policy initiated by the late Party secretary HuYaoBang in the 80s as well, thats when Uighers became more and more violent, commit crime and can get away with it, then why not commit more? Basicly, if a Uigher commit a crime of beating or stabbing people, they were often released the next day as long as the guy didnt die, but if a Han chinese did the same thing he would have been sentenced for jail. This policy MUST be abolished ASAP!

But we don't want to give Western media more reasons to say "oh they are discriminating against Uygurs and taking away their basic human rights" now do we.

So what you are saying is that the riot/protest was planned a long time ago under the ghidance of Rebiya Kadeer and the Guandong incident , being a mere coincidence?
