If you can read Chinese, it said more than 2 hours driving from Southern part of Shanghai city to Changxing island, covering 171KM maximum distance. I would rather stay on the island rather than travel everyday even if I have a house in the city. Which mean at least 4 hours and more than 250 to 300KM travelling each day.

Moreover, most dormitories are free, living in Shanghai will cost you heavily as it is the most expensive city in Mainland China.

It is the Changxing County of Huzhou City in Zhejiang Province, not the Changxing Island of Shanghai. From Changxing Island to downtown of Shanghai is about 20 KMs.

I'm sorry but I think you've mistaken Changxing County Zhejiang Province (浙江省长兴县)with JNCX which is in Changxing Township, Chongming Island (崇明长兴镇 ).

I've driven to Chongming Island from downtown last year, it's a little bit more than an hour on a normal day.

yup. I think he got the Changxing island mixed up. I always stay closer to the Pudong area when I go visit the yards that way. Also, while most migrant workers live in the dorms, they usually have a core labor force that is permanently employed, as well as the staff force. They tend to live in company provided apartments, or bought their own apartments in the area, those would be the people most affect, and unfortunately they are also the management type/used for the key/important works. From what happened during 2020, what they will do is do the testing and free up some rooms so a few of the guys living outside can bunk there until the lockdown passes and continue to work in a bubble environment. It takes a little to organize and get the okay from the government but after its done it should be sweet.
They should handle any of the specialized contractor that is needed in this window frame in the same way, but all that is up to the project management team's logistics foresight. Shouldn't really concern anyone anyway....
Sorry to continue the off topic.

I think you got the two mixed up.

However, I would say that the workers in JNCX most likely live in worker's dormitory (职工宿舍) near the premise or on premise, especially for important military project like this.

You can't simply envision life in china the same way you live in the North America. Since there are no urban rail transit lines connecting Changxing Island to the Shanghai Metro system at the moment, it is VERY unlikely that the workers would live scattered all around the huge city and drive to work from outside of Changxing Island.

Housing/rental prices on anywhere in Shanghai proper close to the Changxing Island will simply be too expensive. and if people live on the outskirt of the city, it will take them a lot more time driving to work during rush hours in shanghai.

Besides, if workers in JNCX lives all across the city, do we see huge parking lots on the premise of JNCX? I don't recall. Since there are NO urban rail transit lines connecting Changxing island to the Shanghai Metro at the moment, taking buses will take them even longer time than driving cars.

Therefore, I don't think it is at all likely that a large enough portion of people working on 003 can't make it to work because the lock down.

I apologize for continuing this off topic.

So... no major changes?

I was literally praying that Type 003 would be launched by the Navy Day of PLAN, April 26th (if not mistaken).

Damn you COVID-19 for threatening to mess up the progress.

TBH, I'm also wishing that China would just go ahead and build 2 Type 003 carriers simultaneously to give the US an up-yours to their 11 supercarriers "supremacy". Preferably make it fast too - China would need at least 8 carriers by the 2040s (Liaoning, Shandong, two Type 003s and four Type 004s) in order to truly master the Western Pacific.

The mass production of carrier dumplings can go ahead when they make sure the first 003 operates without issues, we don't want to find a design fault that then requires the other ships to undergo delays and modifications mid-build. That and crew training would still be the limiting factor in deploying, ships can be built in record time but a good crew takes years to raise.
