CV-18 Fujian/003 CATOBAR carrier thread

Other navies have done it (buying/donating older carriers), it can happen for this too. Chances are low but calling it idiotic is a lack of history knowledge or ignorance of politics in South Asia which sometimes do not follow logic ;)
A sober fact: there won't be another "2nd-hand aircraft carrier sale" like those of the Colossus class half a century ago.

Wow no. It is a practice to sell carriers that are not needed. Gor example the last Kiev class, prince of Asturia(if that was the name), Foch(again probably wrong spelling) to Brazil. So it is not that rare to sell serviceable aircraft carrier, that is not needed anymore.
On the topic. If China wants to gain faster on the USA, I suppose they will make 2 more 003 conventional carriers till early-mid 30s when nuclear 004s start production. There is no sense in waiting 10 years for the ability to build nuclear carriers, when you can have conventional with almost same capabilities. Plus as in any other craft, build carriers also needs practice.

003 isn't finished - so don't talk about selling ... and for other carriers this is the wrong thread

It should not take until the mid 2030s for China to get a nuclear carrier.
Around the middle of this decade or slightly after that the technologies should be in place I think.

I wouldn't be surprised if work has long been going on on the nuclear drive train. Of the 20 to 15 years that are needed for this, 10 to 5 years should have passed by a long time ago.

This is work that takes place somewhere in China in closed factory halls, we don't see anything before that.

Only in the last 5 years of this process you need the hull in which you want to install everything.
