If the Chinese wanted to build more ships of the same type right away, wouldn't we already be able to see modules for a next ship on the building site?
For me at the moment it looks more like operational experience should be gained before the construction of the next aircraft carrier begins.

There is a very good chance that 003 can be launched before end of 2021. And there are no lockdown in Changxing island.
It was not uncommon for PLAN to run two prototypes. This allows planning errors to be distinguished from manufacturing errors.

I'm speaking anecdotally - I believe the 004 will be the 2nd of the 003 variant. I don't see them changing from conventional propulsion. This would follow typical PLAN ship building doctrine.
I agree. 004 could well be an updated 003 just like the relationship between 001 and 002. But time will tell. And now I’m just waiting for more updated photos!
