The increase in area is to accommodate lifting/lowering two aircraft at the same time.

And the KJ-600... it's footprint is surely larger than the J-15 !

This was worked out here in the forum many years ago and backed up with sources. I can't find the relevant posts in a hurry.

Anyway, it will be crowded like hell to release more than three at the same time... not sure if you can manage that without an insane risk of inflight collision.

I think supplemental catapult positions are more about accommodating differrents aircraft types than launching more planes in less time.
