They still made the funnel abut the radar mast. Wonder why they did not can the funnel outboard. Would not have made the island bigger, but would both provide more spacing between funnel and radar mast and but exhaust gas father off the ship’s midline and landing approach path.

Forrestals and Kitty Hawks also had "compact" islands even thought both were diesel carriers while nuclear carrier like the De Gaulle has relatively large island when compared to it's overall size.
There are no diesel carriers. Almost all carriers are powered by steam turbines, a few by gas turbine. None by diesel AFAIK.
not accurate. there is clearly a shallow funnel cap on the structure in the shipyard. the top of the island is not flush.
Also, where is the primary flight control station?

Excuse me, can such a small island take care of the heat dissipation of the high-power phased array radar and flue? On the island of 002, there is a certain distance between the phased array radar and the flue.
Cooling tubes are likely to be routed downward to the ship's hull. No doubt this is liquid cooled.
