it seems like China has built a serious carrier here
no messing about this time
and since the KJ-600 AWACS has flown I believe China is very very deadly serious about its carrier programme
some might say China is kind of experimenting with carriers, well simply put you dont play around in this game and like India you dont "experiment" with multi billion carriers
China is very focused here and it looks like they might do it now
I am just waiting to see if 003 going to be nuclear powered and will have steam or EMALS
although there is growing evidence it might be nuclear powered
I would not be surprised if we see 004, 005 and 006 this decade

Most likely future carrier developments will only get to the 004 by the end of this decade, as for the others, its too early to speculate.

There is no such thing as a final model though, right? If what you are trying to say is that China may build bigger and/or better Carriers in the future, that is a given.
003 is definitely not a training vessel like the Liaoning.
US carrieEd have had Fuller hulls with higher block Coefficient (shorter, narrower, but with blunter bow entrance and more rapid tucks under the stern) than optimal for their displacement since the CVN-65 Enterprise due to docking restrictions on hull dimensions. As I said earlier, Chinese carrier Hulls are likely to be longer, Beamer, but with finer bow entrance than a US carrier of the same displacement unless the Chinese have aimilar or even tighter docking restrictions.
The 003 could be similar to the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) in size, but with electron-magnetic catapults and dual-band air defense radars.
