so excited!
Especially since the news reports I have seen claim it will have IEPS and EMALS. Not sure if the PLAN decided to go with steam or gas turbines for the Type 003 class CVA's. So as China's first CATOBAR carrier and with several new technologies being introduced, there will be a major learning curve involved.
Gas turbine powertrain experience can't be used for nuclear propulsion.gas turbines
Gas turbine powertrain experience can't be used for nuclear propulsion.
... but may be followed by a nuclear powered type, so its turbines should use steam.003 is not nuclear powered
Where ?003 will probably use steam propulsion, not gas turbine. I heard that someone had already spotted a set of boilers on site.
Where ?
I can't find any boiler on any google earth pro image.
The Google maps / earth contain maps with 3D features and so on, so they are updated slowly. It's buried in some Chinese forum. GE imagery is also typically too outdated to keep up with the most recent developments so I wouldn't rely on it.
That being said, it's just hearsay and not verified. Personally I think it makes more sense to use steam propulsion, which is tried and proven for large vessels. I doubt the PLAN will go from a steam-powered 001 and 002 to gas-powered 003, and then back to steam for CVNs.
