Xi Jinping attends the commissioning ceremony of the Fujian.

We all know steam catapult can launch a boot.I know one of the advantage of EMCAT is you can change its launch strength on the fly. Presumably this also allows "dry fire" like this. Would steam catapult be able to do the same safely? I get the feeling the official statement is trying to make a point here.
Official report about the event, after mentioning it was Xi's decision to go for EMCAT then said on the day Xi boarded Fujian and personally pressed the launch button at the catapult control station and watched the sled zoom down the track with no load attached. They did it during launching ceremony, not commissioning. Whether it was champagne or other wine, who knows?Wow, the Fujian is finally commissioned! In China, do they also smash champagne on the bow? I might just have a glass myself.![]()
