Maybe, but anyway, painting has finally begun ?! So regardless if this is the finala PLAN-grey or some sort of primer or protection ... or am I wrong?

Well, with the one post above saying that they still are doing a lot of basic wiring internal, and with the painting having not started yet, I am about ready to move my own estimate back from sometime at the start of the second quarter to eithere the end of the second quarter or even start of the third.

These are HUGE vessels with a lot of internal systems that have to work right, and a lot of work to get the hull protected from the elements...and that is not like painting a house or something.

The PLAN will do it right and we shall see when it is launched.

Once it is launched, it will most likely be at least a year after than before it even starts its initial sea trials.

Time will tell. They are clearly working hard on it and making progress...it's just to a point where it is not se weasy to see all that they are doing.

It will be a big visible mark of progress when we see her painted.

Just like it was with the Liaoning. People forget how long it took the Liaoning to go from being painted to taking to the sea on her intial trials. But many of us on this forum followed it every bit of the way. This will be no different.

Not sure if I have too much wish-full thinking or am I colour blind, but all Your arguments about internal work and cleaning the deck are moot since this IS grey paint !

If You think this is still the same rust or whatever and NOT grey I'm wrong - and need to go to the doctor ! - but following my perception this is clearly a lifting platform on the left and a thin but anyway clearly visible narrow strip of gray color !??

So by now I have the feeling as in the Su-35-thread: some are still questioning and arguing why NOT, when there are already clear images available.

At this point, the vessel appears structurally complete and could be launched at any time. The main determining factors governing whether further fitting out would continue to be done in the dry dock or done with the vessel afloat are:

1. Does the dockyard need to free up this dry dock for another purpose? Such as the construction of another ship?

2. Does the dock yard have free and conveniently located waterfront space where the hull afloat could tie up to undergo further fitting out?

3. Does the hull need further underwater work soon in the fitting out schedule, for such things as installation of propellers and rudders?

Do you really think the installation of the props and rudders would ever happen underwater rather than in dry dock???
