Yep, BUT:

a) until Taiwan is "neutralised" this way or another, ESF isn't so important

b) what's the easiest way to hurt China ( by the USA, Japan etc. )? Cutting the vital lifeline goeing from the Middle East trough Strait of Malacca to South China Sea. So, in the immediate future ( next 10-20 years, barring any unpredictable changes ) IMHO the most important fleet ( that needs carriers the most ) will be the Southern Fleet, so the carriers will mostly go there.

I don't think there is to be debated on that end. Because realistically, containing China through a trade embargo though it would be an unofficial declaration of war, it doesn't force any potential foe to fire a shot. This is why I never mentioned singapore, it all depends on how their relationship with China grows. even then, its quite hard to think friendlies like Ma and sing would actually directly allow any military to actively sabotage trade with China.

I can concede that realistically, a Stronger South Sea Fleet is the most important naval goal for the PLAN. It reminds me of the pacifc war.

But to actually go further, what about the CPEC? And of course mother russia, could one realistically stifle the PRC engine oil needs?

CPEC? What's that?

Mother Russia would need a lot more pipelines built to be able to eplace the Middle East. In fact, I wonder why China and Russia ( and other countries like Kazakhstan/Turkmenistan etc. ) don't build more pipelines towards China?
IMHO, additional pipeline or two from Iran/Kazakhstan/Turkmenistan/Russia would do more for national security of China than 2-3 aircraft carriers, and the cost is probably lower.

*I know that Russia doesen't want that China has too strong independent acess to Central Asian oil & gas

About CPEC, I'm not really sure how feasible that is, looking purely from technical side. I mean, we are talking about mountain ranges with attitude of up to 4800 m, with shedload of snow, frequent earthquakes, landslides... Did anybody ever built a pipeline that high in the mountains? Is that really possible? Same thing for railway/expressway...

:)hmm, you have to change your mindset.
One has to do what one must, feasibility is only relative so long it is within the scope of known physical law.

Nobody else has built a pipeline that high. But that does not mean China can not make it happen.

Once again, within the realm of physical law, everything is possible, only lack of will can make things impossible.

I agree. But there's one another thing: practical usefulness of certain things. Some things can be within the bounds of physical law, but utterly useless in real life. It's like having a 300 000 t aircraft carrier. Yes, it can be made, no problem whatsoever about that, and just imagine how big airgroup would it have. But there's a reason why nobody ( by nobody I mean US Navy ) didn't built one....

To that, I have said "one has to do what one must". That is the usefulness, in my other replies to you I've said multiple times, the highway is the strategic blood vessel between the two countries. What else could be more useful than this? It is about life and death.

I think in your thinking, you DO NOT see the importance of Sino-Pak relationship as much value. That is why you keep on "fighting against" the highway. If you are interested in that subject, I suggest we continue in the other threads for this purpose, there are two ongoing, as this is really OT for CV-17.
