I heard years back that China did get the blueprints for Varyag when they bought the ship. They will have had enough time and experience to refine and improve the plans for the second carrier.

It was flown back on an IL-76 immediately after the deal was signed, before the ship arrived.

I have to say the Rate of progress during construction has been much higher than I had expected. It also seems the intention is to complete the ship to a high degree before letting her out of dry dock, instead of launching when the hull is structurally complete and leave most of the fitting out to after launch.

Technically speaking not the APAR itself, but rather just the mount for it...

But still an important step forward nonetheless.

Too soon. More like end of 2nd quarter.

Still too much work to to...and there is no hurry.

I'll bet one 'like' that she'll launch in March or April.

In all seriousness, the rumors we've heard so far all indicate that the carrier will only be launched when everything's ship-shape. By that, I mean a full coat of paint, all sensors equipped (Chinese MoD confirmed the carrier is in fitting-out stage, will provide link on request), all wiring complete, etc.

This could mean a launch date anytime from February to June depending on how fast they work, but I think March/April would be a safe estimate.
