... anyway as i said when the vessel is in service with its complement of aircraft then the answer for certain will be known!
Liaoning usually operates with 8 fixed-wing aircraft. Maximum in all the years, 13 J-15 were proudly set up for a photo shoot.

I do not expect to be able to experience the possible airwing strength in peacetime.

12 or 13 is all you're ever going to see on the flight deck, but this says absolutely nothing about what's being held in the hangar, peacetime or otherwise.

If the Chinese take the trouble to bring together 40 ships for a parade, they would have brought more fixed-wing aircraft to the deck for a nice photo if they had been on board.

You're assuming something here which you don't have evidence for and have no way to demonstrate is actually the case. 13 may be the maximum safe number of aircraft they feel they can handle at this stage, who knows. Whatever the case, you have no justification to make any definitive statements like you have done here and therefore no way to prove the hangar is empty.

Yes and if the ships had any missiles they would've shot some off to make a nice photo too. Therefore they were evidently unarmed.

It is obvious that we have been waiting heavily in anticipation for the departure of the Shandong. Jokingly, it almost feels as if one night, the ship will cast off into the sea and the PLAN will respond promptly with "2nd carrier? what second carrier?"

so thought it might be of interest at one point the Admiral Kuznetsov carried fifty (50) in total; the vid is gone, but its description isn't:

LOL
Thud at 00:38 of your video I hear "baziruyetsya" and since 00:46 "ischyo 24 palubnych vyertalyota"

Yes, 26 fighter/bombers and 24 helicopters, but as I said, I don't think they would carry that many around on every cruise. IMHO, it is more of theoretical capacity .

Finally...actual proof of my long contention that the Kuznetsov could carry up to 50 aircraft. Now here they are doing it.

Took some grief from folks for years over this...but I have stuck with it.

What happened to the 4-year overhaul for the Kuznetsov? Financial issues? Are they planning it for later?

Well, i did ask members here if they knew what the differences between CV16 & CV17 could be, but no response........so what i posted was a compilation of everything i could find on the internet from English to Chinese sources on the subject. Obviously as no one outside the designers and builders of CV17 know the real differences at this point. What has been written up on the internet, really boils down to what the defense experts expect the improvements to be.......though in general most do say that CV17 will be able to accommodate more aircraft. The other changes really are what i suppose most would expect i.e that the Chinese have redesigned various parts of the interior of the vessel to make the vessel, lets say more akin to how a Chinese crew would expect to be in regards crew comfort etc.
Anyway, unless the Chinese post an actual official report on the changes, we will all have to wait until we see the photo's of the vessel when its in service! :)

Thanks, but so in summary: NOTHING OFFICIAL and therefore we no nothing for sure.

The highest number of aircraft on Kuznecov was in 2016 mission to Syria - 13 Su-33, 12 MiG-29 and 18-20 helicopters and they were not able to operate them for long so they sent fixed wing aircraft to Hmeimim. Everything else is wishful thinking, although the project specification of Kuznecov says 55 aircraft. And there are no pictures with more than 16 aircraft on deck.

The long awaited mid-life has started with app. 1 billion USD allocated. New boilers and radars/electronics is what has surfaced so far.
