Its quite amazing that China can put Type 001A out to sea just little over a year after its launch. The Soviet Union launched the varyag in december 1988 and 3 years later its still just 68% complete. Its a testament of China's shipbuilding technology, skills and its industrial supply chain.

And u dont think the slow progress had anything to do with the colapse of the Soviet union?

They still have 7/14/28 day inspections correct? My old brain seems to think we washed aircrfat every week. Oh well. ..hey cut me some slack..I'll be 65 in September...oh a 21 day inspection is a 7 day inspection. Correct?

True. On board Hancock which had great difficulty making fresh water. the ship was often turned into rain squalls to dowse the aircraft on the flight deck with fresh water.

Dang right shipmate. The 28 day is usually for engines... thorough cleaning if I’m not mistaken. Those heavy salt water can mess up the turbo fans and other critical parts if not inspected properly. There are some pockets here and there where water can pooled as well.

Not even a fair comparison. The late 80s saw the rapid decline of the USSR. They were having $$ problems not skills or technology.

She'll be to sea soon enough...sooner rather than later.

The PLAN has its oen time line and they will stick to it.

We saw the same with Lioaning.

Any day now...sho looks ready to go at any time IMHO.

if I had been in charge of the US Pacific Fleet, I would've said "oh that's great"
Naaaaah! not unless that was their third or fourth Nuke Boat?? That's actually their first build aircraft carrier Jura, so in fact I'm happy to see them designing, building, manning, and maintaining those boats,, that will tie up a wad of cash that should keep them out of real trouble?? LOL

being a "near peer" means you don't have a lot of excess time or cash to go looking for trouble! LOL in fact ROFL
if I had been in charge of the US Pacific Fleet, I would've been receiving feed from the CIA

ROFL

In addition, different ship building practices launch the hull at different stages of completion. The Chinese ship could have been floated out of dry dock at much more advanced stage of construction than the Soviet ship.
