Carriers do not sail on their own they sail part of the overall carrier task group

...for USN there's over 5,000 personal in the entire strike group and that costs around $2.5 billion per year if deployed 24/7, that is why Ford Class is cheaper less manpower and will save $4.8 billion over the lifetime of the carrier

But put it this way, there is no cheap way to run a carrier strike group, only top tier navy’s can afford it, it’s a good way for small country’s to go bankrupt
There are over 5,000 personnel on a US Nimitz class carrier alone. Then you have 2-3 DDGs with about 1,000 more, and a Tico with over 300 more and then at least one sub with 150 or so.

So, altogether a US CSG will have more like 6,500 personnel...and that does not include the AOR or its escort.

Now, a Ford carrier cuts down about 1,000 personnel on the carrier...so it will run cheaper in overall costs in terms of manpower, feeding them, clothing them, etc., etc.

Back to topic I think CV-17 is all most ready for sailing

Weeks now not months

To admit if you look at other images from mid-March - and even November 2017 - there are nearly no changes to the deck ... so even from the recent images alone I think it's too far fetched to assume a first sea trial will happen within "weeks now not months".

But most of the outfitting work will be internal rather than external. So it’s hard to judge progress with exterior photos.

But you will not see any changes on deck until a week before departure, that stuff is the last to move biggest development in those photos is installation of the radar, this carrier is almost ready

Yes for sure but since externally not much has been changed since months, what are the "facts" that others assume the sea trails will start soon?
