It has a developed shape of the flight deck with more space for aircraft and less space for secondary weapons.
I would not necessarily take the mockup to be the final shape of CV-18 since it is both unlikely that this carrier will not have aft sponsons for weaponry and because the mockup may not need to be very precise when it comes to the sponsons.

Don't give it a "CV"-number, because it isn't the next step we see in Wuhan called "002" (expected CV-18 and CV-19). It is something new, may be CV-20, but we don't know.
You don't have any more evidence that it is not the third Chinese carrier than I do that it is, so I am perfectly content to call it CV-18 until there is evidence to call it something else.

what about
- AVG /. ACV („auxiliary carriers“), later CVE („escort carrier“),
- CVL (cruiser, with heavier-than-air craft, light),
- CVA (cruiser, with heavier-than-air craft, attack)

A hull classification where the designated ship type precedes the number (e.g. CVN-68, DDG-67) is US Navy practice. The PLAN follows a hull classification system similar to the Royal Navy's in WW2, with only a number for each ship.

I'm not saying anyone is wrong here-- we can refer to the Type 002 as 'CV-18' and everyone will still understand what's being referred to. However, strictly speaking, it should be referred to as 'Ship Number 18' or only '18', assuming that 002 will receive pennant number 18.

For clarification, 'Type 002' refers to the class/design of ship, while '18' (or CV-18 if you're more comfortable with that) refers to a specific ship. There may be more than one Type 002, which may well end up with pennant number 19.
