By the way, do we know how the PLAN designated its ships? In the USN we have the typical CVN-78 or whatever, but is there something comparable to the PLAN?

AFAIK the often mentioned designation CV-16 - just as above - is surely not official and most likely only a spotter-created one?

I somewhere think I aw an image of another vessel - not sure, a Type 054 I think - fixed on a pier with the gangway attached and written something like "CNS - China Navy Ship", but unfortunately I cannot find it anymore.

As far as I know the only official designation that I have come across is PLANS = PLA Navy Ships. There is no abbreviation prefix for different class of ships. Some time we see wordings like DDG and FFG on banners, but the usage is not consistent, and could be unofficial.

Traditionally, from the late Qing dynasty, through Republic of China and People's Republic of China, normally a ship would be called by its class and name, example, Light Cruiser Chungking/ 重庆号輕型巡洋舰 (ROC Navy), Destroyer Shenzhen/深圳号驱逐舰 (PRC Navy).

Sure. Steam turbines are typically fueled by crude oil or something close to it. However there are diesel powered carriers. The Queen Elizabeth class for example uses 2x 36MW gas turbines and 4x marine diesel engines with 11.6 MW with 4x 20MW electric propulsion engines. So that class is basically diesel-electric powered.

Sure. Steam turbines are typically fueled by crude oil or something close to it. However there are diesel powered carriers. The Queen Elizabeth class for example uses 2x 36MW gas turbines and 4x marine diesel engines with 11.6 MW with 4x 20MW electric propulsion engines. So that class is basically diesel-electric powered.

No Gas turbine fuel is kerosene(jet fuel) and NOT diesel completely different fuel. Most of diesel generator are used as auxiliary power plant and NOT the main driver of propulsion system
