Liaoning is no match for a USN strike group.

But if J31 deployed onboard. If Liaoning carries 12 J31 then it becomes a credible threat to USN carrier strike group immediately.

Just the fact Liaoning carries J31 will be big big unknown factor to the USN, it will acts cautiously.

J15 USN fear none.

J31 with WS19 will be ready in 2019.

Pardon, but this is impossible, if not ridiculous.

Presenting a third prototype might be likely but from all we know the WS-19 is far from ready, this alleged J-3x or as it might be called will fly with WS-13 as interim engines and only years later, the "J31 with WS19 will be ready ..."

IMO this is once again one of the less reliable TV reports ... but anyway, back to the Liaoning.

The J-15 is a far more credible aircraft than an "in development" J-31, all USN forces always act cautiously, all Naval forces everywhere, should act judiciously.. I would ad that its more than likely that the Liaoning has a shadow, could even be a Russian Akula?

Your first statement is indeed correct.... but then, that's not what the Liaoning has ever been about, is it? The Liaoning has been a very successful endeavor, and operating J-15s is likely to be her main focus for many years to come.....

nobody who is serious is going to "write off" the Liaoning or those J-15s, ever, just not going to happen....

The Type 001 and 001A are basically counters to either a European carrier, one of the supposedly soon to come Japanese carriers, or one of the US Marines carriers. Because they lack catapults they have severe limitations in terms of capabilities against a supercarrier. It would help if they had more aircraft on deck, with the J31, but there are limits to this.

If you look at it, these carriers provide the Chinese Navy with similar capabilities to the UK's QE-class. This is enough to conduct expeditionary activities in, say, Africa, or the Middle East.
