Alright I’m lost which was true ?
Russia training on Chinese carrier ? No way
Russia buying Chinese carrier ? No way
Russia training on Chinese carrier ? No way
Russia buying Chinese carrier ? No way
It's several years old...but a real pic. Notice the pennant numbers are all the old black style. Those have been changed to white for some years now.
I do not believe it would ever happen.Possible but unlikely given the costs it would involve stripping out all the Chinese weapons and systems and replacing them with Russian gear.
Such a deal will also piss the Ukrainians off no end, which is something China would not wish to do if it could avoid it.
If Russia really was to turn to China to help build them carriers, they would be far better off gettting a new built second generation Chinese carrier with EMALS, or even a nuclear supercarrier.
Alternatively, they could send the Admiral K to Dalian to get the same once over as the Liaoning, Although given the age and condition of the Russian carrier, I’m not sure it would be worthwhile.
This is most likely a similar deal to the UK RN pilots training on American carriers - to help their pilots stay proficient during their own carrier’s down time as opposed to Russia shopping for a Chinese built carrier.
Russia still wants their own shipyards to do that.
I do not believe it would ever happen.
The Chinese will keep Liaoning throughout her service life and she will be an important asset that entire time.
The Russians would not want her at that time in any case. She has been Sino-ized and he Russians already have one like her that they want to modernize and ultimately replace themselves.
I think this was probably some sort of APril fools joke most likely.
Agreed that the talks of carrier sales are far fetched to say the least
I think while I have no idea of the credibility of this post, I think its not something too far fetched. It won't be CV sales but commissioning the Chinese to build according to Russian specs. Its not so ridiculous with the recent news of military collaboration between China and Russia. The Russians would focus on their airforce and army, I would expect. Perhaps the last part of outfitting electronics, radars etc might be done in Russia or even a sealed off dock at the last phase when the Russians outfit the CV. It would make business sense. Besides I think it would be too long a road for Russian to develop their own eMALSAgreed that the talks of carrier sales are far fetched to say the least, but spending pilots and even planes to cross train on each other’s carriers is certainly a reasonably possible future enhanced exchange option between the Chinese and Russian navies.
